So you all know what I have been going through with my fish.
I am pretty sure I know what I did wrong. Yes I am embarrassed and it is hard to admit mistakes but if anyone can learn from my mistakes it is worth posting.
I lost all my loaches but my rhinos still survive. I had a lot of money invested in my loaches but the fish dying because of what I did bothers me more than the loss of money.
I made several mistakes.
I bought wild caught fish that are known to be very sensitive to water quality. I put them in a tank that had been cycled but not really matured enough for the fish. I just couldn't wait I got impatient. That was my first mistake.
Second I trusted My water filtration system way to much. It was set up for the quality of the city water when the house was built six years ago. Since then the MUD has changed to chloramines and probably been adding other chemicals to the water they aren't required to report by the EPA. That was my second mistake.
Third I added way to much drift wood. The amount of drift wood I had in the tank with the volume of water was just to much. It started to change the PH and that shocked the fish. Next thing you know I have a bucket full of dead fish. Third mistake.
Once the water parameters started changing quickly it was just to much for these Wild Caught fish. They got stressed and the bacteria and fungus that is on ever fish was able to beat there immune system and kill them or make them very sick.
But I still have twelve Rhinogobius that were very sick have survived with the help of several medications. They aren't out of the woods yet their is still the chance of secondary infections. I am keeping a close eye on the water parameters and closely watching their behavior.
