For sps your going to need to have an oversized skimmer, sump with refugium (? spelling), rodi water filter, a dosing plan, crazy amounts of light, a well established tank, and lots of flow. Of course there are different ways, just my opinion...

I wouldn't keep bio balls I would add sand rocks and cheato to the sump. Skimmer is not required it all depends on bio load and feeding habits. The dirtier the water the more it necessitates a skimmer. Good flow and lights are a must for SPS.

Dosing all depends while it helps grow corals faster but that is negated if you do sufficient water changes. Whatever they take out is put back in during a water change. Just make sure you are using good salts. Some aren't designed for SPS. I use Red Sea Pro I think it has the best male up for all types of reefs.

I have the Red Sea salt. But, what is "cheato" and whre do I get some? Sand rocks? Where do I get these?Originally posted by Darbex View PostI wouldn't keep bio balls I would add sand rocks and cheato to the sump. Is it Red Sea Pro? Regular Red Sea is ok but not as good. Throw some of your dead rock that you don't put into your display tank in the sump. The more rock you have the better the filtration. You don't have to have sand but it's just more for filtration. Cheato is an algae the grows free floating in balls or a mat. It helps consume nitrates and other organics. I can give you some or anyone else. Or you can by a small ball from a store.

You can get an Home Depot clamp on fixture and a CF bulb. Cheato isn't picky. They sell Red Sea Pro at CP and FG
