  • ADA 60P conversion

Decieded to consider converting my 60P into salt water. Here's my question....I really do not want any substrate, just "dead" live rock which I have stored away. Will I need to put down the plastic light reflector stuff on the bottom of tank to keep even presssure on the bottom, to keep from cracking from weight of rock???

    Thanks in advance

I would, just to protect the 60p, but it's not necessary.

Its not needed. The amount of dead rock you need will not crack that tank.

Can't hurt but to make it look clean I would only put it under the large pile and then put small rubble at the bottom to hide it.

How much LR we talking about?

Does the stand to the 60p have a top that will support the entire bottom or just the rim?
I ate my fish that died.

You could fill that 60p till it's flowing out the water and it wouldn't have enough weight to break it.

We have a bunch of dead live rock. It use to be in 110Gallon. Of course, we could not possibly put it all in a 60P. So, to answer your question....., I really don't know how much I will be putting in. I was just thinking about enough to pile near the back and as mentione on another respose, maybe just some rubble up front.

The 60P will be on aa biult in cabinet that has a 24" TEK light hanging from above. So, it will just be sitting on the rim. Do you see this as a issue?

                Thanks

All ADA tanks require to be fully supported on the bottom pane, if done as suggested you will not have any problems loading the tank.

What do you mean sitting on the rim?

I wouldn't be too worried about the light. I'm more concern with support for the bottom.

As noted by EK, the bottom panel should be fully supported and if so....it can take as much life rock that you can fit into the tank plus some.

A bit confused now??? What I understand what you guys are saying is that we will need some sort of support on the bottom perimeter of the tank? Like 1/4 round nailed to flat wood surface to keep botton/side seam from separating from silicone sealant???

BTW, where can I get the Red Sea premium salt locally? CP did not have it when I was in there today??

No, the bottom most pane needs to be sitting on a solid flat surface. That is all.

Okay, got what you guys are saying now. Yes, the bottom of 60P will/is sitting entirely on a flat surcace- not just the rim.

No, the Eretmodus have not bred for me yet. Initially, ther was a bunch of chasing and fifgting, but they now seem paired off and setttled into seperate piles. So, I'm hoping that means they will breed soon?? I hope so, they are cool to watch.

Got the rock concern settled. Thanks.

Now, I will need filtration. What will I need to keep SPS and a couple reef safe fish? I know I will need a skimmer. What is the best ones these days for a 60P size? I have some old W/D's-Use as just sumps of with bioballs????
