Remind me next time, I have a bag extra that I impulsed on just to hoard.

So far, Tap water reads 8.0-8.2 and my 30g stays a consistent 6.2-6.4

about 7-8 IALs broken up in some panty hose stuffed into the canister and maybe 7 Alder cones in the tank.

I have never used Peat before but would like to see the long term effects or usage of it, So do keep me updated on the peat when your next filter service comes.

Would also like to see some numbers for your tap and this tank for comparison.

I've slowly switched over to the alder cones cause it's less obtrusive and suppose to do wonders for the water acidity.
Well the only numbers I have right now involve pH. Out the tap, it's 8.2. And with half a pound of peat granules in the canister and 4 large IAL in the tank, over 5 days, it dropped to 7.2. I don't have KH/GH test kits though.

Yeah. With peat being the king of tannins, I have half a pound in the canister plus IAL in the tank with only 250 mL of Purigen and it takes out all the tannins. Love it!

The purigen is a beast with water clarity!

I have a bag of IALs and about 10 Alder cones in my 30g and from what I read the alder cones are monsters when it comes to tannins but as you can see from the vid I posted today it's unnoticeable!

Purigen for FW not only gives you super clear water but it allows for the use of peat moss and driftwood for water softening without necessitating a blackwater appearance. I'm running peat moss and Purigen on my 105 and I have clear water with a nice low pH.
