BTW, Home Depot does carry aquarium silicone sealant.  It is in small tubes.  It typically hangs on a rack in the area of the glues and epoxies also in the paint section.

Picked up tank today!! Aqua Zoo has done a great job!!!

          Built the stand pipes.

Bought 200lbs of medium size black blasting silica (Coal Slag)
At first look I thought is was going to have sharp edges. I put some in my hands and rubbed them together pretty hard. No problem with sharp edges.

Got the main sump pump in today!! I updated the my web site with pictures the other day. I need to work on it and do a little more explaining witht the pictures. I am going to try the fishless cycle using ammonia. I am going to try to put a chart on the website explaining in detail with all actions and test results.

Re: 125 Gallon Tank With Sump Setup

Made a trip to Home Depot today and got the rest of the plumbing. I got the drain lines built and have them complete up the back of the stand. I rigged them the rest of the way so I could test my stand pipes and get an idea of the flow my pump is going to put out. I am thinking about putting a vertical spray bar in one of the rear corners facing to the front and limiting the drain flow on that side to just enough to keep the water in it from going bad. Any one have any opinions on my plans?

No! No! Pump should be putting out 500-600gph and I think it is. I was going to go with a hoz. spray bar across the back wall but I am afraid my plants are going to look like they are in a hurricane.

The overflows are sized for 1400gph. I started building this tank to eventually become a reef tank, but then I was able to look at all of your fish. It will probably never make it to be a reef tank after seeing those fish.

On my 70 gallon the spray bar is pointing downwards. I have it hitting the back glass about 3 to 4" from the gravel.
By the looks of the plants you would not know it is being used.

I actually already have the hoz. spray bar made. I will have to try pointing it down. Thanks

Re: 125 Gallon Tank With Sump Setup

Hello, first time post here. Smokin, is the substrate dark? If it is then your discus will stay on the darker side. It will be worse if you have pidgeonblood types, they tend to show alot of blk on them called peppering. Not pleasing to the eye IMHO. If you have seen the discus that wvg has, did you happen to take any pics? Or Walter if you read this could you post some? I am always interested in QUALITY discus whenever I can find them. I stress QUALITY because there are some out there that claim it but when you get the product it is anything but.

Smokin, although I have not seen any of wvgs stock or wether he is a breeder I would check others in your area. I dont knoew of anyothers of hand but I dont limit my choices to one because they will not have everything you may want. But also remember that Proper Quaranteen Procedures are a must when getting them from different sources.

I have read pretty much all subjects while still lurkng on a website called Simplydiscus.com and have learned so much that I doubt that I will get burned again. Most of the breeders that I have gotten discus from have been consistent with Quality. Let see there is Jack Taylor of Discus KC, some guy named Frank at Gold Mt Discus, Cary Strong but I dont know if he is still in business and I went in on an order with a friend and got some awesome red melons and albinos from a guy named Danny Ing (sp?) but I dont know if he is still in business, and another from another guy named Dan where we got some awesome red melons with no peppering and some Blue Diamonds that were just amazing. Can you tell I have been drinking alot of Coffee. 8O

Okay I will shut up and wait for some pics. Pics Please.

I do not have any pics of his fish. I don't remember seeing pepper on his fish.

One thing I didn't know was that black substrate would cause them to look dark. I thought it would make them stand out in the tank more.

Sorry the PC I use to post pics has crashed & I need to get a new hard drive for it. When I do get it I will be sure to post the pics then.

Glad to see that you are informed with discus from Simply. Just make sure you dont disturb the water at simply. They tend to delete your account when you post anything negative there.

I also have talked with Jack & Cary about selling their discus here to. I also know Frank as well.

Hi Guys, thanks for the quick replies. Smokin I just wanted to let you know. This is just from my experience with pidgeons.

Walter I would give you my # but my husband is very suspicious of my dealings with anyone of the male gender and I dont want to upset the balance that we have achieved these last few months. My children are involved also. I hope you understand.

May be when things get even better I will bring him with to see what you have. I atleast am allowed to have my critters with no hesitation on his part.

I have been to discus as a Hobby but I choose Simply for now and am still a lurker and will stay that way for sometime I think.

I will await pics of the discus though.

So I have had my tank running in the garage for a while now. Since I was just adjusting flows and such I have not been doing any testing. Saturday I decided to test the heater and see if it was working. Set it at 90F and checked again Sunday. I could not believe how cloudy the water was. the heat must have really excited the bacteria in the tank. Jas anyone tried cycling a tank at 90+F?
