    Brichardi Breeding question

    Right now theres 12 adults in my 55g tank and theres like 5-6 seperate subtrate excavation going on. was jsut wondering if they re getting ready to spwn. i google that they were cave spawners so i dunno if this is them making a cave or not. some are even trying to move the bigger mexican river pebbles. thx in advance.

    Yup... that is it. The males dig out a cave to entice the females. You should have more brichardi than you know what to do with in no time! Start watching out for fish hanging out near the top... they may need to be rescued / relocated to another tank.

            as far as i can tell, theres 3-4 pairs for sure and then few others seem undecided. the biggest male seems to have 3 females around him. 8O
            if i see babies soon im just gonna leave the tank all brichardis.

              should be laying eggs in no time but  take a while to see babies though

                besides baby brine shrimp. whats something i can buy in fish stores to feed the future babies?

                  Naah.. babies will take crushed up flake or NLS Grow.. I need them that and they grow like rabbits quick.
                  I promise you this.. you will see babies swimming in your tank by MLK day --- and about a 100 of them too :)

                    oh take heart.....the brichardi's are diligent parents....you feed the tank the normal and they will grow for you i promise you that.....cichlidfan and i both bred a ton of these boogers.....they will protect their babies and the babies will thrive.....just give the tank NLS and flake......they are very cute though.....and they grow fast.....it's so cute to see how the babies fin out and try to look so biggety.....

                      Tim brought up a good point. Often the first pair to form will become the tank alpha pair and drive all other adults out of their territory. I've had alpha pairs of Brichardi and Daffodils both do this, sometimes killing the other adults outright.

                        The 12 adults that sourapple have, came from me.  They used to live with 7 Leleupi and a few other fish in a 3ft 58g.   They have pretty much gotten along from birth (they are originally FL/CF stock)..   There always was two or three pair in that group that breed when I had them, but you are correct once an Alpha is set they usually become the only breeding pair.. in this case I am thinking he is going to end up with about two breeding pair that will put young in the tank within 30 days...

                            i feed a mix of 4 different flakes,
                            Aquariun Tropical Flakes, Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp + Flakes, Ocean Nutrition Cichlid Omni Formula Flakes, and Omega One Super Veggie Flakes. i mix it all up in an 8"x8" container.

                              Nothing beats live wiggly food.
                              But when I don't have some, I use a mix of decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, golden pearls & ground shrimp powder.

                              Just got some freeze dried rotifers & spirulina Powder from brine shrimp direct and can't wait to add it to my mix.
