  • Thanks Sunny and Bee! I'm really happy to see the tank turn around to quickly and so completely. I had been hoping to wait until now to address the algae issue (when my midterms were over), but the tank was looking so bad, I didn't think it could wait. I was afraid the algae would cut off the light to the plants, making everything worse. So I had no choice but to treat it when I did. Now that I see the results, I couldn't be happier!

I'm still getting over being sick, but as soon as I get to feeling better, I'm going to transfer the rest of my fish from my 75g to my 90g so I can start redoing my 75g. Then I'll be able to split the plants up between the two tanks. That's when I can actually scape the tanks.

I have lots of amanos in the tank, and they handle the H2O2 just fine. In fact, I have to bat them away from whatever I'm treating because they are usually on the algae. I've worried about them getting right back on the treated algae while the H2O2 is fizzing away at it, but if they do, it doesn't seem to be a problem because I've never lost any shrimp.

I do not have vals in the tank. They will die out with H2O2. Some people have reported that they'll grow back, but I still wouldn't recommend it. If you want to use H2O2, I'd pull the vals out, treat the tank, and then put the vals back in the next day after the H2O2 has broken down. The vals stand a much better chance at surviving that way than if you left them in during the treatment.

        • durn. the vals are going crazy so i dont want to disurb them right now. i guess i will pluck out the HA tufts for the time being. i am surprised no one is eating it between the amanos, SAE, black mollies, and rosy barbs

Me too. My subwassertang died out over the course of hours after a H2O2 treatment. Boo.

Bee, if you're in need of more subwassertang I have some you can have.

Aw. That's frikkin nice of you! Problem with that is I keep having to pummel this tank with H2O2 and it'd be too crazy to have to pull out all the subwassertang every time I had to do a treatment. :( I really appreciate it though! If you've got any Christmas moss, I'll take that!
