@sunny, if you have 35/1.8 you don't really need 50/1.4. I would get one or the other and save for the 60/2.8. Nothing gets close like a 60/2.8 for macro. I would only get the 105/2.8 over it. You will see what I'm talking about when you take pictures of stuff like shrimp. Just can't get close with a 35 or the 50 to get a single shrimp in a full picture.
Agreed 100% go either or on the 35/50 then get flash then get macro,
then get newer camera, then get bigger lens then get faster computer then get bigger screen, then get newer camera again, then get printer, then get bigger printer, then get a lawyer for bankruptcy.
ok the first part i was serious :)

There is a lot of overlap. 35mm is wider but 50mm is faster at 1.4.
Except for that 1% of the time, they basically do the same.
I would get the 1.4f. But thats cause I shoot a lot in doors and i like bokeh.
I believe most people say bokeh on the 50 is better than the 35.I ate my fish that died.

Not trying to confuse you but there are MULTIPLE nikon 35mm and 50mm lenses. 50mm f1.4G is the lens jim has, and it has different characteristics than the 50mm f1.4D. The sharpest nikon 50mm is the new Nikon 50mm f1.8G, the best bokeh goes to the sigma 50mm f1.4. The nikon 50mm f1.4G falls between those two but cost the most.
35mm f1.4G -$$$$$
35mm f1.8G -$200
50mm f1.4G -$540
50mm f1.4D -$320
50mm f1.8G -$220
50mm f1.8D -$130
I would strongly suggest you try a 50mm first. I had a sorta love hate relationship with the good ol' 50mm. Like hangman said, its generally too long indoors. Its something you either get used to and love the lens, or you hate it and it goes straight to the bottom of your lens drawer.Last edited by soymilk; 04-22-2012, 03:01 AM.

Did you mean that the 50mm 1.4D falls between the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Nikon 50mm 1.4G?
