    Re: Tropheus Aggression

    For example.....

Kids these days are acting up bad! Parents don't punish them like they use to.

    i.e.

    today,
bad f'ing kid runs around store throwing stuff around......parent just begs him to stop.

    before,
kid just tags along with parent quiet as can be cause he knows if he were to step out of line the tree in the front yard has a lifetime of branches in which he would have to snap off for his switchin!

    THUMP.

But you can't make an impression on a fish's a$$, and you know better than to smite it on the head, just give the bad fishies to me or fishlady, we'll use em for bait if they don't straighten up....  :)

Some times EK Thumps his fish just hard enough that when he puts them back in the tank they float.. wait.. he never nets anything twice for aggression.. so they go see the small swimming pool where there is handle on the side that he then pushes down and watches the waterfall hit the fish.. and voila away goes the fish on its new ride..

                      Re: Tropheus Aggression

                      Traci,

                      Is this a 6ft tank or a 4ft tank?

Somethings that have always improved for me when handling Tropheus agressions issues.

                      1.  Get a longer tank.
                      2.  Most Moorii keep a 1M/2F ratio
                      3.  Remove all decorations, perform a massive 50% or more waterchange, and re-decorate
                      4.  Perform step 3, and remove the most aggresive fish to time out tank for couple days even as long as a week and re-introduce with a 50% waterhchange
                      5.  Add more Tropheus
                      6.  Make three rock piles, with the center pile as tall as possible, even reaching the waterline if possible - Knocks down line of sight
                      7.  Make one continous rock pile, with as many catacombs a possible to disrupt the pursuit
                      8.  Find a more agressive fish

and I guess if all that fails...THUMP..

REally though some of these steps may need to be repeated over and over.

Put a couple of PEtrochromis in there to let him know he's not the biggest, and not the meanest.

                          Update

I tried a combo of a few things.

                          1.  I removed all rocks (but only for a few hours)
                          2.  I added 5 Bembas and 1 Moliro.  I ended up having to remove the Moliro and put him back with the Kachese for two reasons.  1 - the Nkonde HATED him. 2 - the dynamic in the Kachese tank changed drastically.  They immediately got really shy again.  But after putting the Moliro back in with them, everything went back to normal.  Weird.
                          3.  Put a huge piece of holey rock in the center of the tank, and created new rock piles on both ends of the tank.
                          4.  Continued with the regular water changes.

So far, so good.  The aggression doesn't seem too bad now.  Of course there is still some chasing, but the dominant male doesn't seem to be targeting a single fish anymore.  We'll see how this goes.

If you need someone to keep him in line, I've got a mean blue gourami I'll let you borrow.  He lives with the hap 44's, and nips at them.  the 44's are quicker tho, but they don't mess with Mr. Blue.   :)

Let them duke it out and settle it amongst themselves. A few hours isn't gonna really settle anything and putting the sp.red with the kachese is less them ideal.

Let them figure themselves out and the kachese will eventually come out.

The Moliro was getting his *** handed to him with the Nkonde.  I couldn't let them work it out because I'm pretty sure that would have ended with the Moliro floating.  He was already hiding behind the intake, and even then the dominant male was seeking him out to beat on him some more.  The Bemba are still in there and are not having any problems.  Maybe because they are quicker?  Smaller?  In a group?
