I agree with the blue background for color. About those painted intakes I hate to tell you this but chances are once algae starts your trophs will likely scrape the paint off in an attempt to eat the algae

              Haha!

What color blue do you guys use?

Krylon fusion in satin black for the pipes. It sticks to plastics and is aquariu safe. Just let it cure out for 24 hours and you're good to go. I'll probably paint over them with whatever color I choose for the background and just use the fusion as a primer so the next coat of color will stick to it. Or just leave them black...either way it's better than eheim green

Doh! I didn't even think about the algae scraping. If it happens and it bothers me i guess I'll see about getting some glass pipes

Got the tank in but I'm still stuck on background color.

                            Options are:

Behr artisian water in flat finish
                            0ae11c74-d717-49be-bc23-6b7180f36c16_400.jpg

                            Or black.

Ive never had a background other than black so I'm a little cautious. Once the paints on and the tank is set-up there is no going back....but I do want the best colors from the fish.

What is your opinion of the stick on backgrounds? Do they look as good as painted backgrounds? Those I could probably switch out with minimal hassles.

That blue is to light IMO. Go with something darker
