What, another tank you say? Yep, got the L-shaped 170 from ADG today. Just too cool and too cheap to pass on. I can envision at least two colony's, one on each L leg? Or three colony's one on each "L" and one where the two "l's" intersect? I'm sure I will be discussing options at the Troph/Petro winter meeting with people who know more than I?

Will need two Ehiems 2262's and pendant lights. But, I'm in no rush. Need a good cabinet maker to finish the stand.

On another more important matter- Mike is interested in the Children's Hospital Charity Tank idea. So, we have a key player on board now. He knows MD Anderson and has the insurance and bonding MD Anderson will require. Mike is not too sure how to set up a PayPal type account for charity? I'm not sure on this either, but Imagirlgeek may know and help on this task? I can get a copy of MD Anderson's Tax Exempt Certificate, but don't know how to proceed from there? I also know City Pets is interested as well.

So, off to good start! Will need more help and/or ideas?

You can only install one Eheim 2262 on it. Its only drilled with one hole on each side.. or are you going to go over the top with the return ?

Yeah, I'm thinking about using both drilled holes for inlet of two canisters? I need to look at the pump curve on the 2262 to see how much GPH i will get with 5' + head? They are rated 900 GPH w/o media an 0 head. So, I'm thinking they might do 400-500 GPH with head and media? So, two of these canisters will put me in the range of what all recommend for Trophs 6-10 Turnover per hour. 170 X 6 = 1,020 gph to 170 X10 =1,700 GPH. We will see-need to research this a bit more. Would like to keep it "clean" looking by having no noticable outside hoses if I could. On the otherhand, do like the idea of having spray bar agitate the water at top.
Mike had some thoughts on this too-to help hide outside tubing if I decieded to go this way.

Personally I think you are on the right track. You can use both holes are intakes and exhaust the water back over the top using two canisters.
Personally with the fantastic shaped tank you have I would stick to a single 24-30 fish colony. They use the space nicely, and there are several other kinds of fish you can add as add-on fish, like some gobies or other small Tanganika fish which will not disturb the colony, but will thrive. Just my suggestion. I would think 2 colonies would look good, but the more I keep these fish the more I love single colony setups... Just my 2.3c

BTW I have a tank with two colonies in it. Tropheus sp Red "Kiku" and Tropheus Duboisi "Maswa" -- they are ending up in my 110 here in a month or two once I have the 215 up and running the fish currently in the 110 have been moved into the 215.

Yeah, this tank is going to be simple and clean. Two /or three mounds of simple rock, with minimal amount of Leslie Pool sand.
Good news is Mike S. is all into aquascaping as many of you know, so the Wife heard what he was saying. Well, we just got through with our weekly WC on 156 with RR's and out came the cheesey mermaid and diver man!! We now have actual rock mounds! Kinda looks like their natural surrondings now.

I do want to buy 30ish Trophs locally if I can. I still like a nice colony of Ikola's, wife like Chakita's? We have a long time to think this one through. I need a cabinet maker to finish the stand. I want to be in a cherry veneer with operable doors.

Anyone know good a cabinet maker? I can find one from work, but that may be crosssing the "ethical" line.

Yeah, really looking forward to this tank. I will meet the millwork guy at his shop next week to finalize type of wood veneer, cabinet design, color, etc!! Martinez Millwork Co. does great work. Family owned for years. They are not cheap, it's going to cost me some $, but i think it will be worth it in the end. Still trying to visualize the aquascaping for an "L" tank shape? Might just hire ADG to get their thoughts and get it right the first time?
