    Since the membership of the HLA has not expressed a desire to spend any money to do anything I think it is a bad idea for the club to have much money right now. However, I wish to donate one dollar to give us something to talk about. I don't want to but could I earmark this donation to buy a van for the HLA? If I had done that and I did not, could the club spend the money for anything else? If the club got enough earmarked donations to buy a van could the club choose not to do so? If someone donated enough earmarked money to buy a van and the club did not want one would we return the donation?

    OK now the club has one dollar. If I can find a bank nearby that will open an account with one dollar would anyone object to me opening an account? I want to be the only person that can write a check on this account. I want to have bank statements sent directly to the treasurer. I want the treasurer elect to account for this dollar here in the HLA forum.

    Re: donations

    To open a business account, you will need a DBA form from the county clerk... ($40+/-)
    Once you have a DBA (Doing Business As/Assumed name) WAMU will open a "free" business checking acount if you deposit $100.
    'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
    He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

      WAMU ? I will bury it in a tin can in the yard for now. What would happen if I opened a personal account and had the bank statements mailed to the treasurers house?

        Re: donations

        WAMU = Washington Mutual
        Doesen't really matter if it is a personal or business account until someone sends a check made out to HLA.  We found it easier to work our international show with everything made out to "BettaHabari"

        But it definately is a good idea to have a separate account for club money.

          I have a DBA and it is only $16 for 1-10 years.
