Keep in mind that it hasn't been decided to have the LHA meetings at Mike's place all the time.  I drive far to get there too, but the club was created for people who live on the NE side of town.  Its not like HAS.

I love the LHA Club, the members are great and represent a good portion of the regulars on HFB.  So I don't mind driving an hour to attend meetings when my job allows it.  I think I smell a SWAP coming up too.

In fact, the meeting at Mike's is not going to be a regular occurance. We as a club are doing this because we were invited, nay, begged to come. We as a club agreed to have the meeting at Mike's this one time to show our support for the new shop and Mike. Being a member of the LHA it was the least we could do for him, after all the great things he has done for the LHA.
Will we have another meeting at Mike's or another shop? Probably. Will it be a regular thing? No, deffinately not. Could we be enticed to hold our next swap at Mike's place? Deffinately.
As Raul has pointed out, we as a club are centered, as the name suggests, on the Lake Houston area. For those unfamiliar with the area, that is between Atascocita, Kingwood, and Huffman. The club was originally founded for those of us who didn't want to make the long trek into town on a weeknight to attend HAS functions. Not that there is anything wrong with HAS. We just felt that it didn't meet our needs. Thus LHA was born. We differ from the other clubs in the area in one very important fashion. WE ARE A SOCIAL CLUB ONLY. We don't have guest speakers. We don't have animal husbandry classes. We don't typically hold clinics on how to make your tank a better place. What we do do is simple, we talk. We share information. We pick on each other mercilessly. And sometimes, we even manage to enjoy ourselves with an informal swap meet.
Is there any pressure to join LHA? No, in fact I wouldn't recommend the LHA to anyone who has a long commute. That defeats the whole purpose of the club. Remember, we were founded to thwart the drive, not encourage it.
If you live in the area, have an interest in a laid back, non-hostile environment, by all means drop in and see us. If however you are looking for a more structured club, I would suggest the HLA or HAS.

I disagree, i think it would be well worth the drive to come to the meetings from anywhere in Houston. Its only once a month...and theres free biscuits and dr pepper :P

I make the drive cus i like the people i am on the opposite side of town from you Scott, but for some reason love having you pick on me.anyway, i do ,my best to come to swaps but work has been in the way a lot lately. anyway i am trying to switch my work schedule on Friday so i can make it to meetings a little more often.
