  • Re: Village Tropical Fish

i jsut stopped by and had a blast. your right that huge tank is kinda wierd with that mix of fish. but the fish seem to love it because it looked almost like breeding behavior from the fronts in their and i saw several yellow labs in there holding(go figure yellow labs) but i thought those were red hooks not silver dollars, either way i dont see many that large in displays anymore. im not sure what i would do with a tank that large. maybe the owner just ran out of ideas so he threw a whole bunch of stuff in there. i think so 6 ft tall jungle val would have looked great 8O . it seems the stuff from the other store is cheaper so they can get rid of it a little faster but the tank setups are pretty nice, they just need more stuff in which they are slowly getting. and Ek your right those filter systems are crazy cool. but i like fluidized sand beds more then bio balls. or some of both (i didnt see any sand beds) but i got my frozen cyclops for my fry and shellies and they love me now

I thought about buying some frozen foods when I was there but when I looked into the fridge most of the stuff had sweat on it so I passed.

N.A.S.H. was suppose to plant one of the display tanks but I never heard back from it and from the looks of the display tanks it was not done. I was really looking forward to it too....

I think that display tank would have looked awesome if it was more of a biotope thing.

Kinda funny. fishysue and I went there late Fri and as we were walking in, were talking about the seemingly "freeness" of the holey rock. When we were leaving, a fellow was out there digging deep holes to half bury the rock in. Still, seems like some might go missing.
Cool place. Loved the rooms and layout. So-so fish for now, though. Maybe get a little more exotic at some point.

Personally really liked the layout and look of the store-

they haven't done a grand opening yet- waiting until fully stocked and everything settled I'm sure.

Teh display room that some of you are disappointed in and probably will be for a while is for the Business man/mall guy who comes in lookng for something to set up in their place of business- so it's about color and flash- not about what goes best together.

Give 'em time- those tanks will change over time I'm sure- but you have to admit for being open only a few days- looks great!

the new store really looks nice, it is the quality of the livestock that sucks,
the fish quality in the store at the moment rivals the major chain stores only cost a lot more.
maybe in time they will have time to get the stock quality back up to par....
quality of the livestock was not an issue in the past, but leaves a lot to be desired at the moment...

gotta remember they had just opened up and likely those tanks are not cycled.

I actually heard that just about 10 minutes ago - a friend of mine went there a few days ago and they told her they were pulling fish out all the time because the tanks hadn't yet cycled.

 You'd think there'd be a better way....

don't know if you guys are familiar with aquarium environments tanks

but they setup the same way most of the time

mix of different species , malawi, tangs, parrots, silver dollars , etc.

they are more attractive that way to businesses and their patrons and really could care less about the die hard fish fanatics

seen many of their tank setups around town

not a whole lot but some. i would give them another week or so to get anything really interesting, the plecos were what i needed some of so that was cool, and i am giving checkerboards a try gonna see if they less chancy as apistos

i think there's were more expensive when i saw them, and i didnt see them today (could have missed them) but i did notice at ranch that some of their tangs were gettin pretty beat up. they had gold occelatus and only saw one baby left in tank and he was in the process of dying (was beat to hell) but it also looked like they had a brevis pari all ready to go, almost got it. but noooooo room
