I saw them in person a few days ago. They do look great. I have never had the nads try discus either. I know you need RO water, but that's about all I know. I seem them kept with no substrate, so i guess they too do not like nitrate.

You dont have to have RO water for discus, mine are in straight houston tap. I never liked bare bottom tanks but its not a prerequisite either mine are in a planted tank.

around here...it is WAY easier to just keep your discus in basic tap water. Most times when people try RO the discus get sickly looking....Discus are some of the easiest fish to keep. There really is nothing to it. Plenty of water change is it. You dont really have to worry about diet too much, or aggressivness, or much else. If they hide...remove what they are hiding behind. I say if you like the look of Discus...then go to HAW and get some. They keep very quality fish there, so you know your not getting an already sick fish. Almost every other store in Houston has sick looking Discus for sale in their tanks. they thin, dark in color, clamped fins, and more expensive than HAW. maybe now you will get the courage to keep these fish. I promise...nothing hard about it.
