  • WTB- - Canister filter for 35 hex.

I have a 35 hex which is really nice.  I bought a "hang on the back" filter which sucks water up, lets it flow naturally through a filter and back into the tank.  It blows big chunks!  My tank as a couple live bearers, about 25 rummy nose, a couple of red zebra danios, 4 cardinals, and a chinese algea eater.  I spend tooooooo much time cleaning that filter for only feeding those little monsters once a day...  they CAn't be pooping that much.  I used to have a canister filter rated for 150gl but I put it on a 55.  So I want something for my "little" tank.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was in a similar boat with my hex. I just bought one of these: http://www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCat...anister_filter

I don't have it yet, but thought I would give it a shot. The reviews I have read were fairly good. I thought it was a good deal.

It seems like you may have too many fish in too small of a tank..............

I have H.O.T. Magnimums on a couple of 40g tanks and they do a great job.
But I still have to clean them every couple of weeks
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

I do have a lot of fish in the tank, BUT, with the bigger filters, I didn't have any problems....  My 21 m/o daughter LOVES stairing at the fish... she even helps feed them...  I don't mind doing the maintainence, I just want to do it LESS...

I have one on a 40 full of cribs thas has the charcoal and foam filter.
and one on a 40 full of dafs that has the reuseable paper cartridge.
They both last about 2 weeks between filter cleaning.
I like the way they pop open and you can remove the filter without removing the canaster or turning any valves take the filter to my deep sink and risce.
They are in my fish room so I don't worry about spilling a little water but I wouldn't try to open them in a room with carpet.
I have to unplug the old one, the new one has a switch so I don't have to unplug it (better).
I've decided to remove the charcoal and replace it with ceramic bio-media
I'm getting ready to set up another 40, so I've been looking for another one.
