Re: 90 Gallon Tank & Oak Stand Full of African Cichlids

This is great.  I have someone interested in the tank, stand and everything else and someone else interested in the fish.  If I can get anything close to my asking price for all, I'll be thrilled.

I'll keep ya'll posted as to how this all works out.

    Thanks everyone!

You deserve the help, anyone who keeps their tanks that clean and obviously cares for their fish.....

Re: 90 Gallon Tank & Oak Stand Full of African Cichlids

        Hello,

I had an offer of $75.00 for my fish, but the number in my head is at least $250.  I may consider parting them out a fish of two or what ever at a time.  OR..... maybe I'll try to figure out where else I can put my tank.  I really want it out of my office.  I need the space.  I just looked around in my living room and just don't see a spot.  Maybe something will come to mind.  :)

If I do figure out a spot, I'll see if I can hire someone from this list to move it all for me.

        * A few minutes later with tape measure in hand....... Just did another walk through in my house and I think I could do some rearranging.  So..... I'll just keep taking offers and then if I just feel I can't accept the fact that I can't get close to what I want, then I'll just have them all moved to the other room.

Now.... how about some offers to move it?  Just in case...  :)

The tank is gorgeous and the fish are real nice to look at.

        Thanks again!

Being your out in Dickinson, the number of potential prospects are limited, but I wish you luck in whatever avenue you decide to persue.

I would like to know what kind of canister filers you where/are running on this tank?

I have a Fluval 405 that I bought at Petco for just over $200 with tax.  http://www.petco.com/product/100126/...r-Filters.aspx
The Jebo 829 I think we gave about $80 for on Ebay.

            They have worked out great!

I realize I live a little further out than some of ya'll do, but really it isn't that far to drive to Dickinson.  I live about a half hour south of Houston Hobby Airport.  I know we've driven a ways for fish we wanted before.  :)

If you had that kind of number in your head to start.....why not post it or state that so not as to waste anyones time? My other concern is yes as far as we can see everything but the frontosas could be "assorted" "mutt" fish and from speaking with you...you didnt seem too familiar with what you had and how many. From speaking with you I added close too or over 30 fish but there may have been more.

My advise is to do some serious research and look to the resources on this site and other sites.....figure out exactly what you have and how many. Then come up with a realistic price.   Most buyers, LFS, or wholesalers will give you maybe 10-30 cents on the dollar.

Your best bet maybe to find those hobbist out there that have Frontosa colonies and likewise with the others. Check with them and you may be able to get what you are asking but will have wait a little longer.

EKLIKEWHOA-The fish you are not gonna get what you paid for them and they will not sell for anything close to what a LFS would sell them for....Most here are not your avg. LFS shopper and are hardcore hobbyist so they know what goes for what wholesale and those usually have some sort of documented origin which gives them their value.
                Good Luck to you

My apologies.  You're absolutely right.  I should have stated that, but I actually did not have that number in my mind until I talked to my husband after you gave me your offer.

I think I'm just getting too stressed out over this whole ordeal and may just forget the whole thing....  :(

Thanks everyone for your time and comments.

Please understand that I wasnt trying to "low ball" you. Thats why I stated that you may want to wait and see if you had other offers. I also made this offer based on the fish you told me and after speaking to other resources. The problem is that when you start high...its very hard to go back down. I just know whats involved for me to take that many fish and come that far. For me its not a small project by any means and there are fish that I dont need. I also was under the impression that you wanted to be done and had a buyer for the hardware so I was trying to make it easy and take them all. It would be some work on my part but i have the resources to make it happen. Please dont get stressed out as there are great resources on this site and everyone is always willing to lend a hand and help out.

I am still interested if you change your mind you have my number.

                    Chris

I'd like to remind all parties concerned how easy it is to be mis-understood on the web or internet. If this conversation was over the phone, it would be easier to "read" others thoughts and or feelings/moods.

I am sure everyone here had the best of intentions and by no means, meant to be disrespectful or coarse. Let's take a breather and come back later and see if there can't be a happy medium acheived by all..

                      Sincerely...

I got my feelings hurt too when most of my fish were referred to as "mutt" fish.  I guess it is because I do not feel that way about them.  They are beautiful fish to me.

I realize that moving these fish is an ordeal of sorts.  I do have a nice huge cooler with an air pump on it already to make traveling for them easier.

I'm just not going to get in a hurry about this.  I guess I really don't need to be.  I just wanted the extra space and didn't want to have to be the one in my house to clean it all the time.  Not that it needs done daily or anything.  I do try to keep it nice.  My husband can't do anything at all.  He hurt his back lifting an armored hatch on his job in Iraq and has had two surgeries.  The second one was on December 10th and it was a double fusion.  He is still not to be bending, twisting or lifting anything more than five pounds.  It has been hard on me doing everything.  I had to unload 4 tires out of the back of his truck and put them in my shed a few nights ago.  I've had two shots in my back lately because of it hurting.  All this plus taking care of my grandparent's is real stressful for me.

I know that is my problem and I have to deal with it.  Just venting a little....

                        Thanks,
                        Jaclin

                          Jaclin,

You have to be patient if you are gonna want to get close to what you are asking.  I'm sure your tank setup is worth it but you have to consider that for $1000 people can buy a 200g or 300g tank with stand for about that much.

                          Good luck on your sale!

I do understand that and would come down to $800 for everything.....  Just going to stick with this and see what happens.
                            Thank you!

Please understand that I meant no harm by my comments.  When I stated "mutt" fish, I was referring to the fish that people buy out of the "assorted" tank at their LFS. I wasn’t trying to say or didn’t intend to say that’s what your fish were. I have some of these in my tanks and they have turned out very nice. My intentions behind that comment was   it’s important for you to know what you have in order for you to get top dollar.  I love your fish ...think they would complement my tank very well.  I will say that I am no professional. I try to surround myself with the experts and go on their advice.  I have listed what you told me below so that maybe some of the other members here can give us some help on what they should go for.

Thank you.  I guess I just didn't understand the terminology of "mutt" fish.  I'm just real sensitive right now with so much going on in my life.  I very much appreciate that you are helping me by naming the types of fish and how many.  You're right before about me not really knowing much about my fish.  I just don't hang on in the fishbox as much as most of you here do.  I just know they are pretty and I have enjoyed looking at them.

I'm headed out the door to go to bathe Grandma and then off to my beginner's sewing class.  If anyone comments, I won't be able to reply until tomorrow.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

My husband had lots of chrome put on my car and got me new Michelin tires with 90,000 mile warranty on them he had chrome wheels put on my car too and gave me a beautiful card and balloon.  Wanna see?  :)
