Na....there's not going to be much shooting involved, once people come to find out Homeland Security will shoot you to keep you safe from the made up terriorist....it's going to be bad news to be a registered gun owner.

If the destination tank has a center brace, make 2 smaller lids.  then you can use glass from nearly any souce.  I tend to hoard old pictures people are tossing, broken tanks, old windows, and other various glass items so I can make my own lids.  The plastic hinges are available from foster and smith in 6' lengths, as are the back trim pieces that you cut to fit around filters/heats/etc...  Both are available for at least .25 and .125 inch thick glass.  I don't recall thicker or thinner ones - I just remember buying the aforementioned thicknesses.

Or if you have a mature female bristlenose to spare, I'll make ya a lid in trade for it  :)

Spot the tank is 72" long, the center brace makes the glass panels required 35.5" each.

Hrm....  I might have some glass that large, but it likely won't be thick enough.  

Are you going to be putting lights directly on it or would they be mounted higher on a canopy?  If above, then Home Depot sells 1/4" pliexi, and I think Lowes might too.  That would work if the lights don't sit directly on it.  Heat would cause bending.

I guess you could use thinner glass, but silicone a narrow strip around the edges to help with rigidity.  That's what I'd probably do unless Al would give me a good price on a couple strips of thicker glass.  Call Binswanger and price some sheets of glass in the sizes you need.  The one on 1960 in atascocita is the one I usually go to.  They've been pretty flexible with me - especially if you have cash.  They might let you dig thru their scrap pile - I've gotten small pieces that way.  Never hurts to try  :)

Im going to mount the lighting in the canopy, so there shouldnt be any weight on the glass.

It took a while, but I got some custom ones for my 115 gallon (5ft x 2ft x 2ft) from Aqua Zoo.
