Wanted: American Flagfish

I'm interested in these fishes for their algae eating ability, I'm having serious problem with hair algae spreading. I don't dare to OD the tank with excel so if anyone have some will buy or trade for some marimo moss ball (4 small balls)

or maybe some SAE would work, I haven't seen any SAE at the local fish store.

Bob's Tropical Plants has the SAE for $2.50. I've heard nothing but great things from this site and plan to purchase from them in the future.

LiveAquaria has American Flag Fish for $7.49. It's a bit expensive, but I haven't seen these lately at the LFS on the NW/SW side.

their algae eating ability is excellent even eat hair algae there are always some on aquabid pretty fair price i used to have hundreds in my pond(snake cleaned me out )and they're pretty too can't go wrong they're better than plecos

In terms of eating algae I think the Golden/Chinese/Siamese algae eaters and o cats are better, but I can't turn down a nice looking pleco.

i'm not knocking plecos i have a bunch just commenting on what i personally know about jordanella floridae

golden and chinese algae eaters are semi-aggressive. Just like pleco they stop eating algae later on. O cat doesn't eat hair algae and that's what i'm having problem with :(

I've got guppies and mollies with a golden in my sump. It seems to be doing fine. Either way, I don't think you'll find any SAE locally... at least I've never seen them. Only the golden and chinese ones and mislabeled SAE... $2.50 each from Bob's sounds like a deal. I think I might hop on that myself

go to the natives section of aquabid they used to be easy to get locally when we had a killiefish club just looked on there 10 for 18$ with 17$shipping grand total 35$ they will do what you're looking for

Well there you go! I think 10 for $35 is a good price! If you buy from Bob's, it's $46.90 for 10 SAE with shipping and tax included.

hmm My tank can't really hold 10 of them though XD... I thought about getting 1-2 to help battle my algae problem. Oh well. I'll find a different way to clear those algae or maybe an SAE will show up at fish gallery some days. Putting more plant mass in the tank to "choke" the algae

How big is the tank? If you want, we could split the SAE? Or if they have 6 for sale, we could split that. I don't live too far from you too.

it's 40 gallon, right now it's almost fully stocked, I can only fit 1-2 more fishes in.

I think you'd be fine with 3-5 SAE... up to you though. LMK if you decide to get the 10 pack of SAE or if you find a 6 pack and want to split half.
