            If ur looking for a large amount of bio media, you can buy crushed med grade lava rock from Home Depot! Its porce enough and will work just fine. I know bio balls can get pricy!!! Personally im a fan of Matrix.

              Wow!!!!lava rock from home depot that's a amazing.Thank you for that tip.Do I need to rinse it or just dump it in my sump?As of now no fish in my system.What about that Matrix?What do you mean by that?Just curious.Thanks.

                  The lava rock will need to be cleaned thoroughly.

                  The problem with using lava rock is that they are really porous and sometimes build up a lot of gunk sooner than bio-balls would.
