I saw some black beauty blasting sand and it looked like it was broken glass. It looked too sharpDon't tell fish stories where people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish.

I believe it is 50lbs for around $15. Although, I've had experience with this stuff and it takes quite a bit of rinsing before you put it into the aquarium. It's a great price if you don't mind doing a bit of work.

Is the blasting sand from fish gallery sharp at all , or more like sand granules ? The sand i saw looked like straight up glass. The bag was marked black beauty .Don't tell fish stories where people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish.

I don't have any input on sand from the gallery. I think I have seen a thread on the box about black beauty not too long ago and you may be able to find it by searching. The stuff from fish ranch isn't sharp or dangerous. Although, in my opinion it is a rather light sand.

Just my $.02 sand kills my filters.... I have gravel in my (6) tanks mixed with sand and only had to replace two impellers in the last 3 years versus 7 impellers in a year when i only used sand. I have to admit I love the look of sand in tanks.... works best in really large aquariums, but to me, under 50gal it tends to grind up the filters....I hear people complaining about their HOB's being too loud and 9 times out of 10 the filter was or had been used in a tank with sand as the substrate.5.5 fw fluval chi - class N top bar snake chested endlers/ red marble bn/ 4 stripe RCS/ pumpkin shrimp
