I still have about 25 - I wont really know genders accurately for another 3 weeks or so. But I just moved them into their own 40gal (up from 20L) so they should grow a little quicker. I could probably pick out sure thing males, but females would be a wild guess at this time.

Were you looking for more males or females? If you wanted more females in general, I love the fish too much to turn down extra males coming back to me. I'd personally rather have another solid male or two in my breeding tank to take the beatings off the females.

Personal opinion... a few males and a ton of females make for an awesome sp. only tank!

or the best thing about starting with fry/juvis.... getting a ton of them and culling out only the best of the best!

Vics breed with any ratio really. My old Thick Skin group was probably 10 males, 4 females, and it was a peaceful tank - female fins were never nipped and were holding - it was all the males beating each other up. With Nyererei males looking as good as they do I'd love to have more show quality males in my breeding tank for sure

But yeah - get a nice handful of them, and i'll gladly take back the extra males. Probably the only fish i'll ever say that statement about.

I'd have to agree completely! I don't mind the bland females filling the tank just to see that one male stand out and more focused on the function behind all that with a sp. tank but in this case I'd be torn between the two! One of my all time favs and this coming from a guy that would rather fill a tank with some livebearers than Malawi/Victs.

Really excited to see that you have bred these actually cause I've never seen any in person and this would be the first after all this time!

Hah - It's definitely been a process. These fry are my personal 3rd generation. The main male is 2nd gen and breeding with a 1st gen female and a couple 2nd gen females. My old original male was too vicious with beating females into submission... so I had to get rid of him. He's a part of Tunedis's tank now - good home for him! He has some nice pictures of him in his threads

Probably should direct this to another section but do you plan on adding new blood to the group?

Did you acquire the originals locally or got them shipped in?

Do you have a thread in the appropriate sub forums with your tank or fish?

I'd like to add more, but it's just so hard with vics to know how pure fish are with such a minuscule amount of WC being caught the last 10 years. I wouldn't want mine to get less pure or ruin the new ones when adding more.

I actually picked them up from a near by LFS as basically my first ever fish maybe 15mo ago. They grew up, did research and voila... purdy fish!
