I'm thinking of more frontosas  
thats why i'm worried with it being a 4 footer...
the guy said it is custom built and has canopy, but didn't mention about stand or anything else.
i'm still waiting on his reply and hopefully some pics

I'm selling my entire 135-gallon set-up.  This includes the tank, stand (solid pine wood), glass tops, light strips, canister filter (penn-plax cascade 1200), heater, dual outlet air pump, air lines, 2 long air bubble strips, and 100 lbs of sand.  Measurements 72x24x18.  $290 for the whole set-up!

If you want the fish too, I have 8 African cichlids, 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 Red Devil, and 1 Pleco - all for $45 additional.  If the fish do not sell, I will just end up bringing them into the Fish Gallery for store credit.

I'd do at least a 6ft tank for fronts. Just my two cents worth.

Just curious, why does everyone go with a big long tank for Frontosas?  The seem to be lacadasical fish that shouldn't need that much swimming space.  Can anyone shed some light on that for me?

Yes. Frontosa are deep water fish. Coming from depths of 150-200ft. Once caught, shipped, and aclimated into their new homes they become extremely skiddish. At first, when they see a person approach a tank or walk by, they immediately dash across to hide. In a 4ft tank or less, there's not much room to do so and they end up running into the glass or rocks. However, once fully acclimated things are likely to calm down. Adult size is another factor as well.

Since the 55 sold today, I'm buying my friends 6 footer for some Mpimbwe's. Keep watch for the journal.

when you say that the wild caught fish will dash into glass or rocks, does that mean the well acclimated Tank raised F1 wouldn't have problem in a 4 footer since they are use to people ?

hmmm... id say if the tank is only 4ft long.. it would be ok only if it was wide also instead of tall.

This problem is not typical with all wild caught fish. It mostly occurs with deep water species such as Frontosa, Bathybates etc. I guess you could say tank raised Frontosa might have an easier time adapting, but if you were to ask a true frontosa hobbyist they probably wouldn't recommend a 4ft tank for a colony.
