  • WTB 10-15 gallon tank supplies for church tank

I'm going to begin taking care of my church's childrens' room fish tank. Currently it's in terrible shape. The fish are emaciated and a WC has not been made in a little over a year and a half. There is not a working filter on it, although it does have an EXTREMELY healthy supply of java fern and snails. I'm going to go in next week to begin taking it apart and cleaning it up.

Well, I was hoping to get maybe a HOB filter for it that would clean like crazy considering I would only be able to get in for maintenance once or twice a month. I was also looking for some small caves and maybe some low light plants and a 24" (????) light. Free or super cheap would be so greatly appreciated!

HAS will provide the plants and light...might have a filter lying around as well. PM me your info and I'll get the ball rolling.

I'll have to pass on the artificial plants. I want to do real in case a filter dies or I can't get in there to do maintenence, that way, I'll have a tiny bit of buffer time.

You know live plants only consume nitrate for you, right?
If your filter malfunctions, nothing will process the ammonia and nitrite for you and they are more toxic to the fish.

Another thing is the HOB power filter can clean the water a little but it's far less effective than the cannister filter. I don't know of any small cannister filters for a 10-15G tank either.
Just so you don't have your expectation raised too high and get disappointed later.

My expectations aren't very high at all. I'm not going to put big money into this tank. A few dollars here and there on plants won't hurt, a few fish and maybe a trade or a filter donation. That's all I need. A canister in a room with a bunch of little, curious kids that aren't always supervised isn't a good thing. The tank has a custom hood and lid becuase of the kids. (it locks :) )

I just want the tank to be clean enough and well cared for enough so that you can actually see into it. Nothing has been done with it in a year and a half.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. Aquatic plants will consume all three.

An Eheim 2211 would work very well in a 10-15g tank. But I also think an HOB would be perfectly fine. :)

Is there anyone nearby that has a 20 gallon HOB for this tank that I could pick up today or tomorrow?
