  • Setting up a HUGE fishtank!!!!

    hi guys!

    i'm Thinking very strongly about buying myself a new fishtank -  i currently have a 180gallon (72x24x24).
thinking about UPGRADING it to a 540gallon (96x36x36), with over-flows....
it will be 1" ACRYLIC, never had a acrylic tank befor. is it better or worse than glass?  how do the glass tops work? pictures i've seen from those large tanks doesn't look anything like the top of my 180 gallon. anyone got a acrylic tank and can show me some pics how the top will look like?

i'm posting this because i would like to have some help about what equipment i should buy for it and stuff!
what filter should i use? i got a BIG canister filter for my 180, but would 1-2 wet-dry's be better for the 540?
and is there any special equipment that you guys would recommend for that 540 tank?

    thanks in advance, rob!!!

What are you planning on putting in that Monster!  I would love to have a tank that size, but my wife thinks my 210 is too big.

just want to give all the BIG loaches space..... also if anyone has BIG bala sharks for sale let me know please ( looking for 9" +++ )

and please someone give me some info on what i should need for the big tank!

      thanks again, rob!!!!

wow!!! thats a big tank for just loaches!

i would at least sump it and add a few canisters so that you can run chemical/mechanical media and to aid the sump.

all the acrylic tanks i have seen just have square holes at the top for access/lights/filters

yea the square holes is what i saw on pitcures - how does the versa- tops work ( glass tops )??

and i'm sure there will be more fish inside that tank then clowns and balas....

i'm not all to sure what a sump is.... can anyone help me?  only had canisters and the filters that hang on the side of a fish tank!

          thanks, rob!

Re: Setting up a HUGE fishtank!!!!

the 300g version cost me about $400 total ready to run with the pump and all.

that coupled with like 2-3 rena filstar xp3 filters which cost $100 from drsfostersmith.com would have you set.
