What do you all think? Okay before I plaster it. I am worring about the height on these rocks. I think the stand close to 13" and the tank is only 16" deep.

i woudl research this fixture more, it looks an aweful lot like the odyssea fixture which means you will end up replacing the ballasts before too long. that and with the cost of these high end bulbs that you are planning might make it worthwhile to get a better fixture that comes with good bulbs?

Pics of rock inside tank..... Most of my Zoas and LPS will be closer to bottom. I will try and line the top with SPS.

Okay so plumbing is done. Aqua scape is done. Now to paint the stand and get canopy. Should be getting lights this week, and placing aqua cave order for skimmer, more bulbs, and some other dry goods. Should be able to get more pics up soon. Thinking of sale red striped angel and moroon clown. Not sure yet.

20 gallon long with ASM mini G dkimmer(new). A 10 gallon ATO system. I haven't decided on pump yet. Want something that is fairly small and puts off about 300gph at 6ft..... Any suggestions? I made two 1" DIY over flows, and 1/2" over flow out of the 5 gallon. The sump Iis a fuge/sump combo with a DSB, macro and mangroves. The 40 and the 5 will both run through the 20L.

Ohh yea semper I am going to pick up that used skimmer I told you about. I am getting it for 30 shipped. I figure worest case I use it for spare parts.

Your aquascape looks good but do you have enough to do its job as bio-filtration? You need 1-2 lbs of rock per gallon.
If you have DIY overflow, be careful about losing siphon and water overflow ... might want to read up on it.
Is your angel reef safe? Maroon clown is the meanest clown, if you have it, don't plan on any other clown.

The old saying that you need one to two pounds of live rock is not so true these days. Look at how many tanks are out the without sand beds and or with out rocks all together. The overflow is designed not to break siphon, however if it does the return in the sump is not large enOugh to over fill both the 40 gallon display and the 5 gallon frag tank. Angel is reef safe to a point. They have been known to nip at clams and certain corals. So I will take caution with her in the tank. The clown was discussed earlier in the thread, and I have since decided to move him to a diffrent tank and replace him with a pair. Did I miss anything?? :-)

Sand, live rock are but 2 methods to provide bio-filtration. In a salt tank, people use sand and rocks because they are natural, they look good and they do the job well.

If you use other means then you may not need them. Other methods also have their pluses and minuses. What other methods do you use?

I think you said you have a 20G sump and a 10G top-off?
Assume you have 10g water in your sump and 10g in your top-off, do you have 20g spare capacity in the 40g display and 5g frag tank?

On the other side, you need to test for the overflow of the sump also. This is the case where power is out and the water drains to your sump without returning.
