hmm I have been doing about 75% water changes every month. Tank has been running for years without issues. I make sure water temp and salinity is exactly same as tank water though..

When i had 6 large (12yr old) tangs & 20 yr old sofites in my 200 i did 75% water changes & it never affected anything, but the tank had been up for 7 yrs. No SPS.

Normal recomendations are smaller water changes more often.

I am doing 25% per 1-2 weeks now.

Reef Crystals was a good salt mix but they have a recall on it... I read it on another forum the person called instant ocean and they told him if your container has a date on it of June 2012 do not use. I do not know were the date is at on the containers. I have also looked online and can find nothing about a recall. On Reef Central several people have lost everything from that salt during the summer. So just be careful if you continue to use it.

You might watt to call them and let them know what happened to your fish.
