    Did you miss my post?

You do not need a sump.

All you need is LR and a power head. LR acts as the media which stores beneficial bacterial to complete the nitrogen cycle.

If you want a wet / dry or fluidized bed filter that's one thing....but you don't need it.
I ate my fish that died.

          LR = live rock.

I ran this tank just about as simple as it gets...

          1) ADA 45-f
          2) 72w CF lights
          3) LR and sand
          4) k-nano

          Done!

Why would you need or even want that?

Really? just that? I have all except the live rock & sand. The power head is just to make the water move or additional uses that it is needed for? see I have no idea.. lol

Think about your SW tank as a canister and the live rock is the media.

The power head is needed to move water around so the bacteria can process ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate.

The power head also doubles up to create flow for the corals. Some corals like more flow than others.

That's about it. Water change will do the rest. Take out bad stuff and add back good stuff. :)

If it is a fish only tank you don't need a fancy light so yea

That's sold. You can grow soft corals with that light!

You may want to buy SW and RO water from city pets or something if you don't want to dump money up front.

Make sure you cycle the tank before you adopt some gobies from Petco.
