In the past week I have discovered two baby Feather Dusters that have shown up in my live rock. When I ask my LFS about them I was told they are "trash dusters" and I needed to get them out. I have tried to search trash feather dusters or bad feather dusters and found nothing. To me they look just like the same common Feather Dusters you see in the stores. Can someone please give me more information?

I dont know of any feather dusters that are considered bad, could be wrong.

Do they have white tubes and white feathers? I have a ton of those and they spread everywhere, keep having to pluck them out. If they are the same thing that's probably why he suggested to get them out. I have them all over corals and spreading rock to rock.

Dustin he is brown/tan with white bands on the feathers. Both places I got my live rock from had Feather Dusters in the tank with the live rock, I have not realy read any info on how these guys reproduce so dont know if its possible I got babies in my rock or what. Here is a photo I took this morning, sorry that its not very good, he is quick to hide if he sees something outside the tank out of the norm.

Oh... those mini dusters are harmless. I have a piece of live rock with a bunch of them. They make for a good conversation piece. I'd leave em in there. I think they give the tank some flair.
The ones that you may possibly want to remove are those that build white tubes everywhere and usually live in the sand or fuge. Those are interesting to have around the main tank also but can get pretty unsightly when they get too dense. They are best relegated to the fuge where they help to filter out particulate matter in the water.

yep nothing wrong with the little things. There different from the big ones you buy at the store but still good. Will never get as big but still interesting. I have the kind pictured and also have the white tube ones with red feathers. White tubes are not as bad as some people make them out to be. Hermit crabs and fish or shrimp thin them out i never see them around for to long in my tank.75gal reef aka the $$$$ pit.
