  • FDA orders 50,000 lbs of cheese destroyed

Family Farm in business for over 30 years, with no record of illness from consumption of their products, ordered to destroy over 250,000.00 worth of food.

In the thirty years of Morningland Dairy operations NO ONE has become ill from consuming their products. Yet they have been ordered by the Missouri Milk Board to destroy ALL of their cheese without actual tests being performed on the cheese stock. This is nearly 50,000 pounds of cheese, or approximately $250,000.
Since the Milk Board and the FDA showed up at Morningland on August 26th, they have been “embargoed” from shipping or making any product.

I was curious as to the actual reason why they would order the cheese destroyed, so I clicked on some links that were contained in your link.

I'm not sure how common it is to find Listeria and Staph. in cheeses - if most "testing" processes uncover it as a natural process inherent in cheese-making, or something. I really don't know anything about this kinda stuff. So I can't comment much. But I just wanted to play devil's advocate. :) And sure, it's very commendable that no one has ever gotten sick from this family's products. Like I said, it could be that every cheese on the market could be tested with this process and these antigens/pathogens/whatever-the-term could be found as a result. But I like to be able to hear both sides of the argument.

I'm not inclined to give a vote of confidence to any part of the government, but it's nice to know that there are folks out there still believe in the "benefit of the doubt"....

I'm thinking it might have been the nice folks at the FDA who forced someone down the chain of command to come up with what just might be "bogus" claims backed my official looking memo's....but that's just me of course....

Not saying I believe anyone, I was really just curious as to what reason the FDA gave for destroying the cheese. There are always two sides to a story like this, and I wanted to hear the other part. That's all. :) Like I said, I'm not at all knowledgeable about the cheese-making or -testing process. I just like to eat it.

We'll never know about such things, as we were not there ourselves to know for sure....we can only go by what our heart tells us in these matters....

Unless I'm mistaken the FDA can not FORCE a recall: http://www.expertrecall.com/fda-reca...l-regulations/

Here's the request from the FDA website: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm224494.htm
