Yeah always thought it was funny that Dems crucified Trent Lott and his comments about Strom Thurmond yet they had the Grand Master of the KKK in their party yet Republicans are the racists.

I find it painfully ironic that the Democrats will celebrate his "Achievements" and our Government officials on both sides of the isle as well as the media will lament on about this Racist's "Great Contributions" and his "Dedicated service" yet they completely revise History and ignore nuggets of wisdom (me being sarcastic) from him like this...

Senator Byrd, who served in the U.S. Senate for six terms, was not only a legend to his colleagues, but he had a grasp of the U.S. Constitution that was remarkable for anyone. His eloquent and poignant speeches are legendary in their simplicity about serious and complex issues.

Congresswoman Jackson said, “despite his early membership in the Klu Klux Klan, which he subsequently renounced, Senator Byrd showed remarkable judgment on a wide–range of issues important to the rights of African-Americans and all Americans. In his later years, the NAACP consistently gave Senator Byrd top marks for promoting the rights of African-Americans, and in June 2005, Byrd proposed an additional $10 million in federal funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington, D.C.

His roots in West Virginia, and his thoughtful reflections on the Bible’s teachings imbued Senator Byrd with a deep sense of respect for all people, as well as for the needs of working class Americans and the poor. “He was a statesman in the U.S. Senate, one who will be hard to replace,” said Jackson Lee.

And just to be fair and diverse... It's not just being a racist that you get a pass on for being a Democrat. You can be a Homophobe as long as you're a Democrat also.

As we have learned in this sub forum, the Gays LOVE Bill Clinton even though he took away any chance of Gay marriage being approved nationally with his laws and he let them serve in the Military... As long as they keep it a secret and stay in the closet. That was a BIG step forward. Wasn't it?

So there ya go, you can hate pretty much anyone you want if you're a Democrat.

it would seem to me that you can have a "pass" if you just jump on any bandwagon for any cause, as long as your holding a seat in the senate.....it's just the epitomy of the old cliche'

Look Byrd up, he was dropping the "N Bomb" up to his death.

You are correct. A person can change their mind. But a person cannot change their actions.

What this Robert Byrd situation has taught us is that our countries Black leaders believe it's okay to be a racist. It's okay to preach racism. It's okay to recruit others into racism. It's okay to lead racist organizations. All you have to do is BUY yourself a free pass to be a racist and if the price is right, you may even be celebrated. You don't even have to spend your own money to buy a free pass for being a racist because Robert Byrd bought his free pass using our money.

Today, Mel Gibson is demonized as a racist for using the N-Bomb but Robert Byrd is celebrated by black leaders and the NAACP???

As recently as 2005 Robert Byrd was still using the N-Bomb in public. He wasn't just a member of the KKK. He joined the KKK as an average racist. He worked hard at his racism and proved to be a better racist than his fellow members as he rose through the ranks of the KKK. Robert Byrd eventually proved himself to be the best racist in all of West Virginia and was made the KKK Grand Dragon where he led the KKK as the top, most racist of racists so much so that all the other average racists in the KKK looked to him for leadership and guidance. Under the leadership of Robert Byrd, the KKK lynched and terrorized Black men, women and children. This was the platform that Robert Byrd eventually went into politics on where he vigorously fought AGAINST civil rights for Blacks.

He changed his mind? Are you kidding me? Maybe he changed his approach, maybe his message, and maybe, just maybe he changed his mind a little but nothing can change his actions.

Every person who defends or has defended or celebrated this man has proven that they have no idea what a racist truly is and those people are no longer entitled to use the words "Racist" or "Racism" because if they even try, the words have no meaning coming from them.

The "RACISM CARD" has been revoked from these people. They can no longer play that card.
