That is a true statement. Enjoy it while its last. Its great to see more and more life always coming at you when young and rougher when you begin to age and see life taking more and more away from you. You loose friends instead of always making new ones. Risk is always fun.

True, but Adam Smith was not theorizing in a social void looking only at the greed of the individual. He was envisioning the check and balances of a tightly bound, traditional, stationary, little English town economy or even an Empire run by a few who all knew one another. Capitalism today is nothing like Smith's model so his sound ideas have to be applied in today's reality and not as if we are all still in Merry Ole England. Adam Smith never left the social aspect out of capitalism. He felt the town could regulate unofficially. He was fighting merchantilism -- state ownership without any form of spreading the wealth.
"The only way healthcare will work with out capitalism is in a socialist or communist system because if a healtcare provider was not able to make a profit then they would not produce the durgs or put up the money so you can have surgery for whatever ailes you.
Then how do non-socialist and non-communist countries like Canada, Great britain, Germany, Norway, Australia, Denmark, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Greece, Israel, Switzerland, Austria, and on and on all manage to have national health care; all manage to have capitalistic economies; and all manage to care for their citizens so that we never see headlines about mass deaths due to lack of medical attention. Conservatives can never mange to answer this questions. Medical/drug companies need to make a profit but hospitals, medical centers, etc do not need to be on Wall Street during dividends for investors. Plus many companies get tax breaks and federal research dollars to finance these great medical breakthroughs. It is not all straight market capitalism and yet I never hear anyone on the Right call for the end of welfare and spreading of the wealth for corporations. Why is that?

So the governement is bad at running everything? So that means the military is run poorly? That means the war on terror is run poorly? That means all those generals are just as uselsess as say postal workers? That means all the daily services from the government that we count on are all run poorly? I think the government does a great job of running many things -- much better than alot of businesses do. I trust the government to help me a lot more than I would any business. I like the government. If you have had people running the government for 30 years who hate government, hate Washington, what do you expect? I always wonder why Republicans work so hard to win elections when they always run on how horrible and hopeless government is and on how horrible Washinton is and on how horrible politicians are. Do they not realize they are running to be in the government to move to Washington and are politicians themselves? Talk about the definition of hyprocisy! Why would you go to a place and do a job and be something you hate? What kind of a person does that make you? At least Democratics believe in what they are doing. I don't vote for cynics. They scare me.

And what about all the expensive diddies businesses give themselves -- spas, hunting trips, luxury hotels, cruises, plane tickets, millions in bonuses, etc? And what about the worthless products made to break so you have to buy new ones? Business is as full of waste as the government. Its human behavior. They are no better. How many little tax corners and whatnot do businesses large and small cut? We are the government. It reflects us exactly. No better and no worse.

The Democratic Party has been centrist since 1992 and really since Carter. Obama is centrist. True liberal Democrats ended in the 60's. We just think Democrats are liberal today because the Republicans have gone from being Moderates to the Far Right. There is no Liberal or Left political force in this country today. We are a Center/Right country. What the Right tries to smear as Liberal are just Centrist policies. That they sound "liberal" to a Conservative just shows how far to the Right Conservatives have gone since the 50's.

I think the Republicans have already beaten the Democrats to the punch. This is the rebuilding election we are in right now. We have lost everything that is America since Reagan was elected and I am hoping a Democratic centrist victory will start us on our road to recovery.
