    Re: Hurricane Ike poll

I've never evacuated, nor have any plans to ever do so. As a youngster I sat through Alicia (lol....my wifes name)....and in 2000 I sat with 3' of water running through my house. Even got out the flat bottom boat and was giving rides to folks who were stranded. Since my wife is a State Farm insurance agent she has to stay when something like this is coming. Like a good neighbor....State farm is here....lol

I evacuated my Mom to my nieces place for Rita but stayed here myself.  I'm glad I'm in Katy now with just a few small trees around and not sitting in a house surrounded by huge trees that eat roofs.

Rita sure was a mess wasn't it!!! And the funny thing is that the hurricane didn't cause the mess....over hyped news cast's did ....not to mention a poorly designed evacuaton plan. :?

Not evacuating...I have to stay with my animals and there would be no way to safely move all of them without any dieing.

I may send my wife and young kids up north.  I'll stick around.  At least things are cooler around here if the AC goes out.  If you plan to stay please plan well enough you aren't part of the problem.

130mph is the wind speed that takes down a home.  North of I-10 that's a bit slower as they don't build up to code.

                    Howdy,

My wife and two of my sons already planned a trip to Dallas so they will be gone.  Will still have one son here with me.  We live in Hitchcock near the dog track so might find some where to move further inland but don't plan to leave at this time.  We also have animals to care for.  Later, ken

Just got back from buying a generator at Home Depot, there were two last ones when we got there and we took one of the two. When we were loading ours into out cart the guy who worked there said "we had 150 of these this morning". They say at 4:00pm. the projected path is going to be put right over Houston.

We just got the new projections from Emergency Management. It's projected to hit between Matagorda and Freeport. A lot depends on how fast it heads toward the coast. By tomorrow night it may move even farther north.

The windload reqirement down here by the coast is 120 mph, 3 second gust.
