Gasoline/oil price has dropped ever since Bush said he was in favor of offshore production. The power to actually do it is in congress, but the fact that an American politician even mentioned such a thing got the speculators nervous.
The pump price here in Huntsville is $3.46 /3.49 ( at the cheap stations). The wholesale price is continuing to drop; today $ 2.82 (no tax). That will mean a pump price of about $ 3.39 in a few days (here).
I just read an article in "World Oil" that makes an excellent case for oil price above $80/bbl being the result of speculation. This was permitted by security laws passed in 2000 (under Clinton) and the interaction with ICE (international comodities exchange, in London).

The Shell at 529 and Eldridge is back down to 3.22 a gallon again today.  The lines are long, but not backed up into the street.

Darbex - is that a typo?  I live right on the edge of Houston/Pearland off 288 and gas is $3.29 right by my house.

Howdy,

The 2 Valero gas stations in in Santa Fe & Hitchcock were posting $3.29 last week then went up ten cents because of the storm and holiday weekend.  There was one station that did drop to $3.22 in Hitchcock.

Alexa, next spring it will be 20 years for me, was the landscape manager for many years and they still use me as a landscape consultant on the new landscapes.  Steblein is my last name and have been running the recycle program for the the last 16 years along with conservation initiatives.  We are the group pushing for the 4-10's at the university.  I also steer the annual Earth Day celebration at UTMB.  Direct email some time!

I work for them in the Correctional Managed Care area for 14 years....I'm an RN...i recently transferred to a clinic outside the prison system for a change of pace .....I'll be in Galveston on Wed though at the main campus for some kind of class i have to attend.....weather permitting of course.....

... and when UTMB people call their IT service desk they reach the company I work for.

I used to answer calls, but since then I moved up in my company and I ensure that our customers (ie UTMB) are routed to the correct analysts to answer your calls and fix your problems :) :) :)

Huntsville was $ 3.32 the last week of Aug, then went up some. But was still the lowest prices I saw back and froth to Austin.
Today (tuesday) , when it became apparent that Gustaf was nearly all media hype; the price of oil dropped fast. So, gasoline in Huntsville will be less than $3.30 by the end of the week , likely less than $3.20. Wholesale now $2.73 (ex-tax).
I think I will plan a driving trip so I can by more cheap gasoline.

I was at 529 and Wilcrest today and the war continues between the Shell (?) and the new Chevron across the street from each other.  The new Chevron has the digital price per gallon on their sign but the Shell (?) does not.  I guess the Shell (?) got tired of trotting out to their sign to manually change the price and have now draped a sign across their regular unleaded price per gallon that simply says "one cent cheaper per gallon than the Chevron".   8)
