HD really does make a difference (or at least that's what the salesman told me when I bought it).

Yeah watching the whole thing in HD rocked... okie I was shedding a tear when I heard of the story of the little 9yr old who walked with Yao Ming during the opening ceremony. I will say the whole thing was impressive... the only thing possibly they could have done better was the lighting of the torch.. I understand the running across the whole stadium... but what I would have done was I would have had a ring of fire.. ie lit the whole top ring on fire and then that would have finished at the torch running up to it.. not the short little distance it did :)
ohh well I was not consulted on that part prior to them building it :P
