  • Dog grooming?

I picked up a little female Pomeranian for my baby sister last night but need some help.

The dog was not pampered like they should be and a friend says that I should take her to get her fur cut off and that I should not attempt to do it myself since her hair is "matted"? :?

I'm not trying to pay an arm and a leg for this grooming since it is only to cut all the hair off but don't want a hack job either cause I am almost positive I can pull that off. Here's the kicker though.....I want to cut it like she was a lion

If someone knows a place please let me know....would prefer for it to be close to home but I just bought me a gas saver so not really worried about the cost of gas anymore. I pm'ed Tia-pan since I remember he dealt with dogs in his profession but think he trains them and not grooms them.

    Thanks!

If there is a petsmart close to you they do pet grooming. Or petco. I can't remember and I don't know how much they charge.

Most places do want a shot record though if the pup is over a certain age.

I would just do it at home myself.  My cousin had a poodle and his gf has a minature one.  Its really expensive to get it groom, so my aunt just groom the dog at home.  Looks pretty nice when finish lol.  There's this grooming place in downtown that does it really nice but can be pricey.  I forgot where its at but they do a nice job on little dogs.

the "lion" should be pretty easy... just grab a pair of trimmers and trim the whole body down to 1/4 inch and just leave the head/neck alone.

This little pup is pretty stanky and there are hairballs or knots everywhere.....I was thinking hitting it up with some scissors first then with the clippers.

                  Re: Dog grooming?

You definately want to remove the mats before shaving if you can.  If not , when the shaver reaches the mats it will most likely just yank the hair out.  If the dog has an initial bad/painful experience with it's grooming it will never forget it, or you for that matter, possibly shears or people in general.  I would recommend finding a reasonably priced groomer rather risk giving the dog unfortunate, everlasting memories.

We use Eric Rutherford at Pet Zone Mobile Grooming, Ph 832 889-2223.

He does all 3 of our dogs and our cat.  His rates are very resonable and they come to your home days and evenings.

If you give him a call tell him that Heidi and Roy refered you (He also knows us as from National Trade Banc) and you are on a tight budget. They are very good people.

                        That's what I'm talking bout!

                        Thanks Roy!

Gave the thing a bath cause it really reeked....figured no one would want to touch it smelling like it did.

                          Re: Dog grooming?

I wish I could remember the name of the mobile groomer who did my sister's dog Chuy, to NOT recommend!
A few years ago I visited my sister Lupe and she said she had used a mobile groomer for Chuy (a black chow) but she said his cut did not look right. I noticed Chuy was shaven from the waist down, had puffs on his tail, ankles, wrists, and on his hips. The groomer had given a poodle show cut to a chow! Poor Chuy looked embarrased and Lupe was furious when I told her what kind of cut her dog had.  :furious:
We do not do groomong at the clinic we work at, but we usually direct them to the nearby Petco and Petsmart.

                            Re: Dog grooming?

My ex wife is a groomer....what sort of clippers do you have?
Is the head matted or just the body?
I've shaved a dog or three....if you use the cheap clippers you're going to burn the dog.
Let me know what you decide and I can talk you through it.

Well I have the clippers you use for humans....Remingtons I believe.

I bathed the dog and it's not really matted....I'm guessing that means having knotts and stuff like that.
