  • Houston Zoo (aquarium exhibit)

Went to the zoo for the first time in several years and have to say I was a little disappointed with there setup. The salt water tanks seemed kind of bare with limited amount of fish in each setup. The freshwater tanks did have a little better setup but disappointed that they only had one African tank, which are arguably the best availability of good looking fish. I was also disappointed to see a 2-2.5 foot giraffe cat in a tank that was maybe 4ft x 3ft.

Overall I would say its worth seeing if your already going to the zoo but I would never make a special trip for it.

Well that ain't cool. I checked out there web sight like 3 months ago an was under the impression that they had this amazing mile long building with quatrillion zillion gallon tanks! Been meaning to go but this ends any stress I had over not going yet

I'm sure others will chyme in, and maybe my expectations are just too high, but I was not overly impressed. As I sad before its not a bad exhibit if your already going to the zoo, just not worth it's own trip. If you want to make. Special trip for aquatic life I would go to moody gardens aquarium in Galveston.

I will certainly agree, it always seems to me that they go all in for things that are difficult for hobbyists to keep and gargantuan tanks yet fail on simpler tanks. Huge SW tanks are cool I suppose and I enjoy seeing Arapimas, seahorses, and alligator gar, but step up your general tanks and reallt get some Ichthyologists onboard who really have a love of the hobby. Seeing some of the stuff we keep in Home aquariums in huge tanks is awesome. Maybe they are hurting for volunteers? Might have to send an email and see as I used to volunteer on weekends at the Reptile House and had a terrific time.

we go to the zoo once or twice a year usually, but i agree not just for the aquarium. they have nice setups here and there, but i agree sometimes look sparse or undersized tank for the inhabitants. mainly my daughter loves anything thats swimming anyway so she enjoys it a lot. whenever we travel to different cities though we usually visit their aquarium.
