  • I guess I'm just old fashion

Someone posted a filter for sale, I called this person in the morning and I inquired about the filter and it was still available. I got the location, it was about 40 miles from me. So I asked if that was the best they can do on the price, and they responded with, make me an offer. So I offered $25 less that what it was posted for. It was posted all best offer, they accepted my offer and we agreed on a time to pick up. They went ahead and sold it to someone else.

It is more then likely the person who bought it asked them what your best offer was, and offered them more then you agreed upon.

It is very messed up that someone would do that, they should have sold it the first person who responded regardless of any other offers, because a deal was made.. I would have been reluctant buying from them anyway, if they were that dishonest by offering to another buyer after you, who knows it may have not worked right anyway. You are probably better off to have not bought it.

That's rough, had that happen to me as well... wish people would just keep their word. Or at least have the decency to take the time to notify you if the item is gone and you had agreed to buy it at a later date

                I know what you're saying.
How about agreeing on a price, arranging time to pick up and when you arrive there is another guy already loading....
To answer your question there are fewer people who's word mean something.

Yes the buyer has a right to set the price and sell to who he wants but once you made a commitment you should honor it...
The other side of the coin is people who swear up and down they will pick up at x,y,z time only to make lame excuses when you phone to find out where they are...

It does suck but there are a lot of unreliable people out there that do not stick to their word. i agree with a few people on here. most likely someone else offered more than what you agreed upon and the seller did not have the courtesy to pick up the phone (or stick to their original agreement)

Not saying you should but.... why not just blast them and give everyone notice to not deal with them? I seems like a prickisth thing to do by backing out at the last moment when a verbal deal has been done.

^You could do that... if it really bothered you that much. I think it's more annoying than frustrating personally, but honestly so far I've met a lot of great people through HFB and only had one or two issues like this, so its not really an issue I think.

Fact of the matter is the person selling can sell to who they want. Just don't expect anything more if the same person sells something you want. It's not right but it is that persons right to sell to whoever he chooses. Happened to me many times. Selling and buying.

i realize that the OBO mentioned in that post was for bidding purposes. It was literally OBO in every sense of the word.

money talks there is no friendship in business, it is wrong for the buyer to agree on something. But as long as they let you know that its sold and dont make you drive out there i dont see a problem with selling it to someone else. The way i see is if you really wanted the filter you would of paid full price or slightly less of the OBO.
