  • I guess there will be a knife ban too

Pretty sure y'all have heard about the stabbings at Lone Star College. Guess guns aren't the only weapons that can bring harm to dozens of people at a time. Let's see what pathetic solutions the government tries to come up with now.

Might as well ban the use of legs as well. Hell, ban people in general. No more people. Problem solved lol

            Sorry to be that guy......
But you notice they were all wounded rather than killed right? There's your rational argument for a gun ban right there

He stabbed people with a surgical knife from the biology lab. My biggest question is how did he successfully stab 12+ people with a knife the size of a pencil? Must be some ninja **** going on at the time. Or someone were not fast enough with their feet.

Spoons made me fat & I don't even want to tell you what sporks did to me. Ban all cutlery! It makes people fat!

The guy is also hearing impaired. Of course, hubby had to point out that he's also redheaded. I just looked at him and reminded him that I have a gun, a machete, a huge butcher's knife, a pocket knife & an X-Acto knife & that I know where he sleeps! He laughed. Why? Because I don't have these untreated mental problems that send people over the edge.

MENTAL PROBLEMS are the key issues in these types of things. It's not guns, it's not knives, it's not the object used. Anything can be used as a weapon. It's the PERSON mental state that's using the object that presents the issue. I don't understand why the focus is always on gun control or banning this or that. Let's treat the ISSUE. If we spent as much time & money on treating the MENTAL ISSUES as we do on lobbying against weapon control, there would be a lot less maniacal people in society.

We have become such a paranoid society that we want to take away the objects but we turn a blind eye to mental health issues. They don't get better on their own! If you take away guns, take away knives, whatever the object may be.... they're going to find something else to use. Look at prisons. No weapons are accessible to inmates, yet they find new ways to make shanks all the time.

Scratch all that, this really isn't a conversation I have a right to participate in. Have at it. Apologies

You have every right to your opinion. It's what makes conversation & provokes thought!

Some people don't like guns & that's cool. I like mine. It gives me a sense of empowerment over the bad people out there with guns. I'd rather have it than not and I ALWAYS have it either on me or within a foot of me. If it comes down to my life, my family's lives, civilian lives or the life of someone meaning to harm me, my family or an innocent person? There's no question in my opinion. They're going down & you can bet on an empty clip. I'll never pull it unless I intend to use it. There is such a thing as responsible gun ownership. Again, this is my opinion & not everyone will agree. Some people don't feel that way and that's ok, too. They'll be thankful I had it when I use it to save their life or prevent them from being raped, though.

By the way, you are justified in using deadly force, in Texas, if you catch someone in the act of rape. On a more personal note, I am a rape survivor and didn't know this until afterwards. I've also been held hostage in a S.W.A.T. situation by a family member. A MENTAL family member who traded me to the hostage negotiator for my aunt's purse. My life meant NOTHING to him as he held a double barrel shot gun to my head. I was a helpless child then. I had just watched him try to kill her & he would have if I hadn't have jumped from a 2nd story window, went to a neighbors & told her to call the police. I've also been robbed at gun point. He had the gun buried in my forehead so hard the barrel left a bruise. My ex-husband told me the only way I was leaving him was in a body bag. If you've never met me I'm 125 soaking wet at 5'3" tall and he is a 6'3' 240 pound iron worker. It is for these reasons that I own a gun. I refuse to be anyone's victim again.

Again, many people don't feel the same way nor have they lived the colorful life I have. I have my CHL & I own a gun. I don't own 50 guns. I'm not some radical nut job who needs a .50 cal for protection against the criminals. I just want me and my family protected at all times from the bad people in this world. It's that simple.

If I remember correctly, you're Australian. You are very likely going to have a radically different viewpoint than a native Texan. The right to own guns is as natural to most of us as the right to own a car. You are entitled to your opinion and to voice it if you want. You have a unique perspective.

Most people nowadays have zero situational awareness and spend most of their time with their head buried in their cellphone. I'd bet they didn't even notice him until they were stabbed a time or two.
