Can't wait for the regular whitetail season. I've been doing my work on the hogs though...

Anybody else hunt? What part of the state?

Anybody do any permit hunts like pronghorn or aoudad or any other exotic? And I always gotta ask - anybody got a hog problem they need taken care of?

My lease is in Llano. Got several hogs last year but have come up empty so far. We did see a couple Black Bucks on one of the cameras a couple months ago. My brother thought he saw one last season but wasnt a 100% till we caught one on camera.

We also have a little bit of land in Brazoria and the hogs come by every couple of months. I put one in the freezer any chance I get. Sadly I've been out of pork for a few months.

I'm about to experience my first hunting this year. I used to hunt squirrels but this year I'm doing doves and deer. I was out around Giddings last week shooting some clays practicing for doves and three bucks walked out about 100 yards out. Got the binocs and one was ten points. Big neck. I have a buddy who is strictly bow so he has been trying but with no results. The next ccold front should get them moving good. I've heard about some Axis deer? Heard they were exotic but good to eat.

Axis deer are indeed exotics, but they're open season. You can take one as long as it's on your property or any property you're allowed to hunt, and you have permission to take that exact animal. They're probably the best eatin' meat that you can shoot in Texas.

The only exotic that you need a permit to hunt is aoudad; it's also the only exotic that has a bag limit. Pronghorn is also heavily regulated though it is not considered an exotic.

Where does your buddy bowhunt? We have lots of properties all over Texas and we've had plenty of bowhunters take a nice trophy in the past few weeks.

Well he lives in Smithville which is about 45 east of Austin. They have some land out there but nothing to brag about. How much is it to hunt on your lease?

None of our properties are leased out. If your buddy only hunts bow, then we'd probably let him hunt for free. I will be at our 4000-acre ranch near Del Rio the week after thanksgiving. Active feeders year round, trail cams, new construction house with full amenities. We're always looking for people to go out there with us. We also have 300 acres in Bryan and another 300 acres in Fayetteville that we could hunt. A HFB Hunt Day could be pretty cool!

i am crossbow hunter i hunt with the excalibur axiom im trying to find a lease right now to load up on some hogs

That would be awesome. Crossbow? I'd be scared to shoot a hog with a bow, especially if I'm ground level.

thats why i use rage broadheads they leave like a 2 inch gash in them and if you get a good shot the arrow will completley go threw them
