I don't live near any LFS with 20 for a $1.00 ,so I end up having to buy rosy reds at PetSmart where they are hand counted twice and 13 cents each. I know thats not much but it adds up when I'm feeding 40 to 60 rosy reds every other day and they run out of them often. I tried super worms but my Bass, gar,or pike cichlid won't eat them .I'm thinking of setting up a feeder tank .Can I order in bulk online ? I can't seem to find any web sites or would it be easier to just hit one of my favorite LFS and buy a weeks supply every weekend ? (pellet training is a B!@+$#!) Thanks

City pets does discounts on bulk feeders if you want to go that route, but I tried and it just seems like a hassle; plus, you'd have to gut load the feeders which costs more $$ on top. I've been trying to pellet train my bass as well, but it is taking quite a while. I also picked up two more bass that were claimed to be "pellet trained" but seems to only eat live seeing how they chase all my dithers and constantly try to eat them but ignore pellets. You could starve them and constantly try to feed them the pellets to train them.

I have had these guys for about two weeks now, the Bass is quit thin and I have been trying to fatten him up a bit before attempting to pellet train it .The Gar and pike I am trying to pellet train but its not going well .Luckily they came with a huge crawfish that eats all the the pellet food that they just ignore .

Yeah I am in the process of starving my bass right now. Fed him quite a bit of live, but not any more. My dithers, bichirs, plecos, and pellet trained fish eat everything the bass ignore, but eventually they'll give in from starvation.

Try blackworms or nightcrawlers? Those can be maintained/shipped easier than feeder fish and would also be less prone to disease.

If you go that route I would split some shipping or something.

                    Or this ^

I would say it's way much better than the feeders, nutrition wise but not sure if your bass would take it. You could starve them and then try feeding them the worms

Yea ,your right . I think I'll stop by academy after work tomorrow and buy a box of night crawlers they sell as bait and see if they will eat them .

Honestly, I'd say they will eat anything. They just have to be hungry enough. After a while, my little bass darted at the pellets I threw in and even tried it once but spit it back out.

Look in the breeding section, I have a thread titled "Live foods" or something to that extent, I posted links in there for future reference.

Try the method of throwing live feeders in one by one to teach them to hit anything that drops. Its how ive taight my bass before and as some have seen they even hit fimgers when trained this way
