How do you make the overflow more quietOriginally posted by mgarrido View PostWell at this point since looks like you already own a quietone pump, trial and error is the way to go, but should be fine with a T and a ball valve. I really prefer smaller pumps for 3 factors: 1. More water contact with the bio-media; 2. Less heat transfered to the tank; 3. Less noise (overflows tend to be a bit noisy)

Didn't know you already had a pump.
That would have cut out a lot of this discussion, LoL! Yeah, trial and error from here. It will work but like stated above t and valve it.

It would allow the pump to run closer to full potential and cause less restraint on the pump, also you could have it break the water surface so the sump doesn't build up a protein layer and further aerate the water.

I'm gonna have a ball.valve on the return as well though to lower the gph. Will that work. I figure after all the pipes for the return its only gonna be about 700 gph

i would not use that pump without a T on the return line and dump some water back into the sump

Ok, I see the validity of it now, make sure it stays wide open when not in use.
As for the pump I would go with something less with the overflow you have unless you plan on valving it down but I think running a smaller pump would be better overall. You can add circulation via powerheads or even assist the sump set up with a canister filter.

Exactly but I see no harm in it being there
