  • BAT

This is just alittle FYI. My dog caught himself a Bat today in the yard. Right in the Heat of the day. I see them flying around every evening but, never during the day.

So, after my daughter stopped her panic attack on the phone, I went home to the rescue.

Heres the FYI if you ever encounter the same thing.

Contact your local dog pound or dog catchers. They will come out and pick up the bat. They send it off and have it tested. Should have the results back with 4-5 days. Make SURE your pets are current on there Rabies shots. If they are Not current, by all means, keep small children Away form your pet. If it is current, nothing to worry about.

The animal control office will get back to you with the results and any other helpful info you may need.

This has been a Very Hot and Dry summer. The critters are out looking for water. Snakes, Ants, Rats and of course, Bats. Watch your children.

    Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the info. My dog hasn't got into any bats but he has tried to go after a few snakes and a rat. He normally just starts barking and my wife freaks out and i have to get out a 9 iron and practices my swing lol.

This dog of ours is Knuts. He's a Wolf Hybrid. So, he eats anything that won't eat him.

Any small child exposed to a bat or to an animal that has been exposed to a bat needs to be vaccinated as prophylaxis, regardless of whether they've been bitten or not. I'm studying for my pediatric emergency medicine boards and just went over the latest guidelines... so keep your kids and your house pets away from those bats! The rabies series for children costs well over several thousand bucks.

Good thing I don't have Kids. They would cut into my hobbies.
