This has nothing to do with the BP disaster.
It's all Menhaden. To many fish sucking to much oxygen in a shallow high temp pocket of water.
Happens frequently but doesn't get reported.
I supplied resources to sample this water and it came back clean.

Yeah, Mississippi runoff causes huge phytoplankton blooms. Look up the anoxic zone just south of the Mississippi mouth. Menhaden create HUGE schools, and if they get into a shallow, hot body of water, DO goes to 0 in minutes.
Louisiana likes to beat dead horses... Not saying the BP thing wasnt' bad, but I highly doubt that is the cause. Menhaden aren't the type to avoid contamination. That is more an K-lifestyle thing, while menhaden are about as r-type as you can get...75 planted (Being Renovated)

The Corp opened their fresh water flood gates more than normal to try and counter the inland migration of oil.
IT reaked havoc on the otyster beds. So it was a double whammy. Beds further south were affected by oil beds further north by fresh water over flow.
I talked with a shrimper in Grand Isle. They expect it to take 5 years for them to get back to normal. In the mean time they expand shrimping seasons to help offset the oyster season loss. Now the shrimp dont have time to grow out and it dilutes the shrimp quality.
