  • Tony need advice

As alot of you know Tony is moving here from Michigan. Should he select a electric provider now or wait till he gets here. I think he should do it now on line so he will have electricity when he gets here. Also which provider? I use spark and am very happy. Should he compare rates because they vary from one to the other? What about fast cable and internet? I use comcast and also am very happy. Can ya'll link your electricity & cable providers in this thread too make his move easier. Thanks.

    For electricity: http://www.powertochoose.org/

For Cable: It's a coin toss to me. I'd probably look at Comcast or ATT U-verse. Compare what works for you and choose.

We use Green Mountain: http://www.greenmountainenergy.com because they use only clean energy (solar, wind, water):

Since our inception in 1997, our customers have helped avoid more than 11.3 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions. That’s as much as:
      • Taking over 52 million cars off the road for a week
      • Over 473 million households turning off their lights for a week
      • Over 478 million trees would absorb in one year

All of our customers together have helped spur the development of over 40 new wind and solar facilities across the nation.
Also check powertochoose.org Its ran by the Texas Public Utility Commission and lists all providers and their best price.

        I use Gexa Energy; https://www.gexaenergy.com/Default.aspx

No complaints. My highest bill in 3 years with them has been $150. The only drawback, if you want to call it that, is that they don't consider the payment received until the check clears so I send in the payment as soon as I get the bill.

The suggestion I was given 4 yrs ago was Take Reliant, and dont get on a plan, then immediatly change to whom you want. Because if you change before arrival, Reliant does not have to turn on the electricity at the place until your "company" tells them to turn them on, and because of the time it takes for billing etc to start up.. 4-6 weeks without electricity while waiting. I want my lights (and AC) on now...

I like Comcast, but who knows if they are available whereever it is that Tony is moving to.

I am open to suggestion on electrictiy as I am considering a change myself.

For cable AT&T seems to be the best thing going. Of course living in the sticks my options are limited

              I use TXU for electricity.

For cable I went with AT&T U Verse for cable, internet and phone. I have had Comcast and Dish Network before.

                  Thanks everyone,

I'll take a look at that power website and see what's going on. I really did want to tell AT&T to stick it (sorry if anyone works for them, but I was upset), because they treated me like crap a couple of years ago (let's just say the story involves multiple visits, multiple techs, and a month with no phone/internet when it was a simple glitch on their end and should have been fixed the very first day. . .their words), though if they're the best option, I'll go with them because they've been decent since that time.

i use Tara energy and i like them a lot....the rates are cheap and since our summers are so hot they offer balanced billing so you can have stable bills all year

for cable i have always used Dish Network, they have the best prices for what you get....when we were gonna have to switch to Comcast because of where our new place was it was gonna cost at least twice what we were paying for something close, but not as good as what we have with dish...

for internet i would try the new cricket wireless if it is available where you are....its a little usb plug in, only 40 a month...i have friends who use it and love it
                    I love my baby girl!

I have been a customer of GEXA ever since I moved here to Houston in 2004 and have been very happy with them. You can sign 1year and 6 month contracts that will lock you into a very low rate.

I am locked in at $0.10 per KW-hr for a year, and it has really reduced the bill.

For cable and internet, I think U-Verse is the best package deal out there. I also get my phone thru them as well. For like $140 per month I get mid-grade high speed internet, 200 Cable channels, and unlimted long distance on my land line and its never been a issue for me.

That reliant info makes sense. I would do that Tony don't sign up for a plan with them, just get started with them.then switch to who you want after a month.

I do not know if you got tanks or not yet or what your plans with them are, but the hardest utility I had with getting turned on was the water.
