What are youre guys thoughts on this that happened yesterday. I think they should not put large marine mammals in Theme parks. They are just asking for trouble.

Free Willy? What do you think an Orca that has grown up in captivity would do in the wild? I don't think capturing a wild animal for the zoo or wildlife park is a great idea, but possibly rescue animals or for breeding purposes to help out endangered species seems OK. Many of the sea mammals in Sea World have been born in captivity. I think these places are wonderful so we can see the wonders of the world in a way that most of us never could. Many of our own fish are captive bred, but lots of people still want "wild caught" fish...

Yep, and lets outlaw bull riding and football because they're dangerous too.Originally posted by rahne View PostWhat are youre guys thoughts on this that happened yesterday. I think they should not put large marine mammals in Theme parks. They are just asking for trouble.
http://www.ajc.com/news/aquarium-off...of-327228.html'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Have you ever seen Mexican bull riding? That's dangerous; it probably should be outlawed here. I have DVDs, and people die. As for the KILLER Whales, well, KILLER Whales. No different than a circus or zoo. But there should be some precautions taken with a Killer anything.Originally posted by PhishPhreek View PostYep, and lets outlaw bull riding and football because they're dangerous too.So many things can be a mystery, when all we're seeking is freedom...

I know many people envision whales and dolphins as being peaceful wonderful animals, but they are still wild animals. I have seen footage on animal planet of a pilot whale that bit a diver in the leg and then pulled her deeper underwater, as if to drown her. The whale did release her though. She must have thought it was fun to swim up to a pod of pilot whales and start petting on them, before it went horribly wrong.PLECOS SUCK!

I think they were talking about the species of whale, not one particular whale.Originally posted by jeebus View PostDid I understand the news correctly that this whale has killed two other people before?Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.

yes...this particular whale has been implicated in two other deaths...Originally posted by jeebus View PostDid I understand the news correctly that this whale has killed two other people before?
A SeaWorld spokesman said Tilikum was one of three orcas blamed for killing a trainer in 1991 after the woman lost her balance and fell in the pool at Sealand of the Pacific near Victoria, British Columbia. Tilikum was also involved in a 1999 death, when the body of a man who had sneaked by SeaWorld security was found draped over him. The man either jumped, fell or was pulled into the frigid water and died of hypothermia, though he was also bruised and scratched by Tilikum.215g Malawi Peacocks and Mbuna

Okay, I heard it in passing and like Tim thought they might have just been talking more in generalities. I'm not sure what to say about a whale that's related to two other deaths, and now a third. I also heard on the news that after the first death, this whale was sold to Sea World with the stipulation that it could never be used for live audience shows, but instead strictly for breeding. My initial thought was why breed a whale that seems to have a killer trait about it, more so than others like it? Its because they each fetch up to two million dollars each, primarily because the U.S. made it illegal to hunt them in the 70's.Originally posted by SteveCGG View Postyes...this particular whale has been implicated in two other deaths...

The name "killer whale" came from fishermen who used to call them "whale killers", don't remember exactly how the two words become switched. Is the whale dangerous? Suuuuuuure! Along with any other animal walking on this earth, wild or domesticated.

These things kill and eat Blue Whales, the largest animal on the planet. Besides, has anybody see the movie Orca? Know what little bit about them that I do, I wouldn't get in the water with them. No matter how docile or tame they are there is always the fact that they're one of, if not the, top predator in the ocean. So many things can be a mystery, when all we're seeking is freedom...
