Hey, since you replied in another thread about being from OH and going to OSU, did you ever try the Ethiopian restaurant on N. High St couple blocks north of Lane Ave, called coincidentally BLUE NILE?   When my wife left her job at OSU we and some of her colleague friends went out for our 'goodbye' dinner there.
YEP!! That was the last place i actually ate Ethiopian food and it's been YEARS, I think 8 to be exact!!! I was on a Columbus forum and they were talking about that spot, so now I've had Ethiopian food on the mind for a bit now!! I have to get my fix SOOOOON!!!! 8O

Lankfords at Genessie & Welch.  If you like your food with a little spice, you will like this place. The only draw back with them is they only open for breakfast & lunch.
They serve true Southern Texas food.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

George's Diner on Washington.  We used to swing by there for lunch all the time when I was working for Enron.  The menu is basically whatever George felt like making that day.  Probably the best part about Georges is George himself.
            HERE

I'll throw another vote in for Bubba's on Westpark just outside of 610.  And yes, the Jalapeno Tater Salad is the best.

Le Viet is also good.  There's a thai place in the same strip center as Le Viet called Tom Yum Thai that I love.

Tejas Mexican resturaunt in downtown alvin is also really good.  Pretty cheap, too.  Their chicken chipotle enchiladas are awesome!

Not really sure that it qualifies as a mom & pop anymore, but the Phonecia on westheimer near old westheimer rd. is also really good.

Whoops..  can't forget Dodo's Chicken on Richmond just east of Tanglewilde!  Best rotissorie chicken anywhere.

Tom Yum Tai either is under new management or otherwise changed their name to "Red Basil operated by NY Group" (whatever that means...noticed the name was changed last week, unsure how long it may have been changed prior to that).

Tampico on Airline- the sopa de mariscos is TDF.
                  Mai's on Milam- great Vietnamese.
There's a little taco truck on Montrose & West Gray that my bf swears by.
Katz's on Westheimer- open 24hrs and you must try the fried pickles.
