Sorry to jack your thread, but I need advise too. Just need to ask a question, don't need to hire one.

Depending on the nature of the situation, some lawyers will talk with you for free for a first time consultation. It can give you some idea of whether you may have a true need for a lawyer and what your odds are of getting an acceptable outcome.

This is true. Plaintiff's work is normally free consultation.

Most others are going to be for a fee...the better the lawyer the higher the fee.

I wouldn't be the plaintiff. I haven't done anything yet to be sued but i'm being left with no other option but to take the risk. I spoke with a officer and he said i'll most likely win but it depends on the judge also.

Even as a defendant, you should be able to talk to a potential lawyer for a free consultation. In fact, if you believe you may be sued, you will want to interview more than one lawyer to find one you really like and can work with. Consider the consultation an interview. You present your situation, and the lawyer tells you what s/he can do for you. The lawyer's goal is to get your business. Your goal is to get a good lawyer.
