I believe the carps in our bayous are the ones that look like koi without color.

Sounds like a fish story. Mississippi tributaries are higher than the great lakes , so water must be pumped up. Chicago is the only place I have heard of that does this.
Besides , there would be no more Funniest Home Videos where the carp jump up to hit the people in the boats .
