Energy factoid (re. oil)

The average US onshore oilwell produces 88% water (7.6 bbl water/ bbl of oil). I am not connected to media in anyway, so this is fact, not opinion.
The average US offshore well produces 50% oil (1 bbl water /1 bbl oil). Because it is so expensive to treat water offshore to environmental standards (you know how bad it would be to dump salt water into the ocean ), offshore wells are adandoned when they produce much water. The combined US average is 5.3 bbl water / 1 bbl oil.

I am waiting for the computer/ internet fad to end; so I have not learned much about using it. But:
Argonne Nat'l Lab pub# 64622, or ANL-EVS-R-09-1 ( Authors, Clark and Veil) should get you somewhere. The pub date is 2009 but the data date seems to be 2003- Data collected by MMS. I doubt if percentages have changed much , if anything water cuts could be higher as the gov't gennerally prohibits drilling in new areas- so the US becomes more dependent on the gov'ts friends in OPEC.
